Right after earning some over time and bits I now have 300quid for a new pair of folks.

At the mo I am looking at either a pair of U-Turn Recons or the 2010 RS Rev Races form Merlin ( http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/marzocchi-and-rockshox-suspension-forks/rockshox-suspension-forks/rockshox-revelation-race-2010.html).

I am edging towards the Revs, but should I rule out Fox's due to wear issues? Or does anyone else have any other ideas options I have missed?

I am open to Second Hand just need a 190-200mm steerer and be in black. There are for a DMR Trailstar.

Cheers

Russ

Yes, you should definatly rule them out, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Got some revs from Merlin last year and unfortuately I really don't like them, they leak oil when left in car (on their side) or upside down, found them a pain to set up with the dual chambers, Lockout has packed up a couple of times too. Still they were cheap!

I have fox float RL 120 on my main bike, and in contrast I have had no issues whatsoever, easy to setup and performance was always more confidence inspiring. Lifted the seals occasionally but always found everything ok. Despite all the naysayers on here I love em.

And if having to replace the the worn annodised stantions every 3 years is the downer - its one I'd happily pay rather than put up with the Revs.

No. Just go to the efforts of maintaining them properly! Wiping/relubing the stanchions after every ride isn't that hard, nor is a lowers service. RS service are the same (15hrs), remember...

Very true Jimbo...sadly I can be lazy. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But then I would only blame myself!

So for a Trailstar what Fox's would work well?

Yep, the Pikes, Revelations, SIDS and rebas that I and my Girlfreind have, have been 100% reliable, super easy to setup, no issues with lockout/rebound/u turn or anything failing, no stantion wear issues, super forks for the money. Considering that pre SRAM I'd vowed never to buy another rockshox fork, I'm a very happy man.

Well had my talas's since Jan and no "worn" uppers issues here - clean my bike after most rides with just low pressure hose pipe and do a seal service 15-20 hours of riding (5 min job). Dont rule them out just beause of that - I don't built/replace/fix and forget. Most of my bike needs a tweak at some point - chainset degrease, rubbing rotors, so a few mins on teh forx is not really an issue to me. It is my pride an joy afterall second to my wife of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ so dont mind spending a little time on it!

BTW I would use a little float fluid to lube the uppers (same as in the foam rings inside under the seals)

So a Pair of Fox forks would be perfect but new they are out of my price range!

Anyone got a second hand pair going for between 250-300 quid? ๐Ÿ™‚

That money would easily get second hand fox vanillas like I've got on one of my bikes, had them since they were launched and they would still be on original stantions had I not been too skint to replace the bushes when they went

If you like to thrash, would go for bolt thru though, my Pikes certainly feel a lot stiffer and the u-turn can make hills less wandery at the front
