I'm back on the island for a weekend and wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of the best trails while there. Cheers

What he said. When I was at uni in Southampton, we used to go on the ferry to Cowrs, cycle path to Newport.
Then head West out of town on B3401 towards Carisbrooke. Just out of town is a litle road that leads to a bridleway onto Bowcombe down, then head for Brighston Forest, Shalcombe then Freshwater Bay.
Reverse route for home.
Not techy just good old fashioned xc ride

Brighston has some more singletracky/techy bits in it but was a mudfest on my last visit this time of year, local mtb club short guide at:
