Had the XC full sus itch for a while, but thinking of pulling the trigger. Looking at the Giant Anthem, but wondering if the price difference between the X5 and X4 is worth it (250 quid!):

What do you think?
I would normally hide from a TK damped fork in a big bush, but if you are half-competant mechanically you can buy and put in a motion control damper in the recon and buy a new rear mech for probably less than 250 pounds.
X4's miles better, fox fork and shock and no alivio bits...
IMO 😉
The float R is not particularly different from the Monarch R; neither have adjustable compression damping.
The fox fork is better than a turnkey damped fork by a mile, but about on a level with a motion control damped fork.
Alivio is trash.
If you aren't the kind of person to wait a few weeks for the right mech/shifter to come up in the classifieds, and to buy and sell your bits until you have it sorted, just take the x4.
basically it is
REAR SHOCK: RockShox Monarch R
Forks
RockShox Recon Gold TK Solo Air, tapered steerer, 100mm travel
REAR SHOCK: Fox Float R
Forks
Fox F100 RL-11, tapered steerer, 100mm travel
and an SLX rear mech and deore shifters
I would say probably but you may be cheaper selling original forks and getting some SH ones instead and then some decent shifters and mech
The X4 looks like it's a pretty good spec and doesn't particularily need anything changed. The X5 would need a fair bit of upgrading so I'd also agree the X4 looks like it's worth the extra.
I'd say yes.
Try pedalon. I'm sure my mate paid £799 for his x5 from there.
