Have never ridden one and there is a tasty looking genesis ioid in classifieds so need some opinions??
ive had a shot on the 11 speed one, it was good, didnt notice any drag and gear changes were quick and smooth.
I've tried the 8 and the 11. A friend has had both, so I've put in a few miles on them.
Personally I liked the 11 a lot more, but they were both pretty good. You need to get used to the changed weight distribution, but other than that I think they are a good solution.
I like mine never any problems, smooth but heavy. I use the bike, On One Pompetamine, on road and canal towpaths mainly , other than the weight the only other downside is needed to carry a 15mm spanner for removing the wheel in the event of a puncture. Removing and refitting the wheel is easy but best to practice at rather than the mud and rain.
Are the ratios the same as 3 x 9 (or 10)?
Is the spread of gears the same?
Nice, but they don't have as low gearing as you can achieve with a normal MTB setup. The only way around this (for the 11-speed at least) is to use gears which break Shimanos recommended gear ratio limit.
I could have done with some lower gears at 24/12 as I like to sit and spin and I was pretty broken , but I already have the biggest cog and smallest chainring. It is a bit heavy and getting a flat was a pain in the mud, but it does feel like it will just keep on working. Only other snag is the delay in pickup which can be a bit annoying
An 18t on a 8 speed gives you roughly the same ratio as a 9 speed cassette
