Makes a clicking sound when riding. Off the bike it clicks when I lift and push down on a pedal.

Probably, unless it's the pedal making the clicking noise.

Just gave the crank a tug and it clicks so prob not the pedals.

I assume they are throwaway and replace items? (its off a sum £500 bike). I think its a Truvativ so can i replace it with a UN54?

Much thanks

Pedal bearing housing shot?

I've been running square tapers for a while,
they usually start wobbling a bit at first, can you feel any play though the BB axle?

No wobble - just a click. Hope it's not the frame!

I think you'll find square taper BBs never wear out. It's only external BBs that do that. You have probably worn the rest of the bike out, but not the BB.

I wore one out, though it was 12+ yrs old and had a hard-ish life. Not difficult to or expensive to replace, the worst bit was getting it out of the frame, needed a 2 foot breaker bar to start it turning. If the cranks haven't been off for a while they might be hard to shift, especially if the extractor threads have gone. A three leg puller can be useful for that.

Putting it back - copper grease on the BB and square tapers, locktite on the crank bolts and do them up to the right torque. First time out take a box / socket spanner in case they come loose.

Is it the front mech cable catching on the crank arms as you do a revolution, I had an annoying clicking and thats what it turned out to be
