[Closed] Is it worth upgrading a Yari with charger damper?

[#9878214]

After a bit of advice.

My bike has 160mm Yari RC forks on it, as I understand it, I can upgrade the motion control to a charger RC3 damper for £200 and it's then the same as the Lyrik RC3.

The thing is I rarely, if ever lockout the forks. So would I notice an improvement with the charger, or would I just have 2 low speed compression settings to ignore?

I have a Lyrik RCT3. I never touch the 3 position knob, always leave it open.

The Charger damper in the Lyrik/Pike is a better damper compared to the Motion Control damper you have in your Yari. Is it £200 better? Dunno. Probably not I'd say, but it depends if you hate your Yari, and if so, why.

Cheers, by better damping is that when the dials are open as well. So even if only use the open setting there is a difference? Maybe not £200 difference though

Yeah that's exactly right. The Charger is better but I'm not sure I'd be paying that much to get one.

If you've got an itch to do something to the fork, chuck a Vorsprung Luftkappe in there. It's a good chunk cheaper (£70 ish) and offers a noticeable improvement on stock RS forks.

You need to change the wipers to to get it the same as a Lyrik. Cheap RS seals in a Yari, posh SKF in a Lyrik. Or so I hear, YMMV, etc.

Having changed the seals and put a Charger in mine it only feels better to me when you are really pushing in the chunky stuff. 95% of the time its hard to notice, but that 5% is generally when I'm hanging on for dear life and need all the help I can get, so...

I didn't like the Luftkappe in my Yari. Horses, courses, etc.

the latest version of the motion control is as good as anything out there unless your planning on chasing luic bruni anyday its only fancy adverts and your mates that make you think you need the latest charger 2 damper

look there is a little improvement from the charger 1 to 2 and a slightly bigger margin from the motion control to the charge damper 2 but in all honesty its hardly noticeable .

I actually prefer to service the mc than the bladder myself

the yari stiffness make it a more viable option over pikes too imo even with the weight penalty

Thanks for the replies folks. Don't really have an issue with Yari, just thought it might be a worthwhile upgrade.... Maybe not though.

Not used the Yari Motion Control damper, but the old motion and mission control dampers were spikey - I've heard similar about the recent motion control damper.

I also prefer the charger damper from a reliability and servicing perspective, lower service? Easy as pie as the damper is closed, get a scratch on the damper side stanchion? You aren't going to lose damper oil because the cart is closed - etc etc. The closed cartridge is a much neater cleaner design.

look there is a little improvement from the charger 1 to 2

That being said how much improvement is there over a 2018 pike RCT3 Vs a 2014 RCT3? Apart from 20grams and boost.

I have a 2017 Yari and 2015 Pike. The Pike is miles better as soon as it gets a bit choppy, it’s a much better fork imo.

I upgraded to the Luftkappe first and found it much kinder to my hands, ditching the tokens really helped, but the charger damper made it better still. As said above it is only when you are really pushing it you notice the difference, but that is when it really matters.
