I have a very limited budget for a bike and I've found a new Orange P7s within it. I'm nore bothered about good fork and a dropper than 1 x 12.

I've been without wheels for a year or two and whilst my trail centre days are behind me, i'd like something that can handle an overweight idiot when he gets beyond his talent pool.

Will I regret it? or shall i continue looking at skinny wheeled XC bikes and aim for canal paths during my pre mid life crisis...

As a fellow 45 year old who's a bit chunky and definitely not sporting a Leo Sayer, I say go for it!

The thing that makes the P7 good, is that it can handle just about anything, it’s a very adaptable machine.
I certainly wouldn’t be worried about strength, i was 23 stone when i got mine, it was fine. 11yrs later it’s still fine, a friends son has spent most of the summer ragging the tits off it.
Great machines.

If you were nearer 55 I would recommend a Crush 27.5 😀 !!

I’m heading towards 40 and last year swapped my 150mm full suss for a P7 29.

With two young kids my riding had changed somewhat, but I’m still impressed by what the P7 can do. It can whizz around trail centres or do rides in the Peaks. I also took it on a three day ride across Wales doing the Trans-Cambrian recently.

If you like Oranges and want a rowdy HT then a P7 isn't a bad shout.

Plenty other options available that may well be 'better' (obviously a subjective term that is meaningless other than to the person making the judgement) though.

If you like the look of it and can afford it - go for it! What's the worst that could happen?

I’m 45 and have a P7 29er. It’s great. Get one.

(I’m neither fat or bald. Yet)

Hell yes, 50 here, fat (but with hair) and massively, massively overbiked but my bike makes me smile just walking past it in the hall, let alone riding it.

It's not a P7 but that's immaterial! Get a bike you will want to ride and make you smile.😁

Mine was ace. The white paint ended up tatty and thanks to the efforts of binners of this parish, it wound up being powder coated in Greggs Blue (tm) which looked amazing.

I bought it with the intention of building it as a Deore special semi commuting winter bike. Over the three years that I had it, it ended up dripping in XT, 1st gen Pike Air 454s, hand-me-down Hope and a snazzy powder coat (see above). Much missed.

I have a 9.5 year old one , they are brilliant fun. Don’t ride mine as often as I should these days.
Do it.

I mean it’s quite a long and slack hardcore ht but why not if you like it? More fun than an xc twitchy bike - although there is probably stuff in the middle of the 2 extremes that might suit you better (depending on what you are riding).

If you like Orange, the Clockwork 137 or Clockwork Evo always look good to me.

Thanks guys, it was a toss up between that and a clockwork but went for the P7, plus it's blue so it matches my helmet 🙂

Surely the answer is it depends how hardcore the fat bald 45 year old is?
