As stated above, 5 miles with some nasty climbs and open flat ares where it's usually windy in the wrong direction! Will doing this help me when it comes to going out at the weekend for 3 to 4 hrs on the trails??
my view is that anything that gets your legs spinning and your heart rate up is going to be good. Maybe 5 minutes warm up 10 minutes of intervals and 5 minutes cooling down?
Better than nothing, just make sure you warm up and warm down in some way. I use to do 5 miles each way to work and back in my last job and found it helped, also use to do the long route back on nights where I could to extend the training ๐
I did similar last year and will be starting again soon. My riding buddies noticed a difference.
My hours have changed at work so I cant ride to work now. So I am planning 45 min early morning blasts twice a week. You know the sort go as hard and as fast as you can and try not to be sick. Im hoping that will really help my fitness and my weight!
Will definately help
It all helps ๐
20 mins riding to work and 10 mins riding home really helped me.
Shame i've been completely lame the last 2 weeks and mainly driven in
Yes, it'll definitely help.
Even a quick 15-20 minute ride like you describe will help your fitness if you do it regularly. Although you might find if you do that very often, you will want a longer ride soon enough.
Joe
last spring when it got light on a morning i just did a half hour 5mile offroad ride a couple of mornings a week before work and that helped loads with my fitness (on top of a thursday night and Sunday morning ride)
Looks like it's a yes then! I'll keep at it then!
My commute is a bit longer, but I've found that doing it every day actually hampers my weekend riding. Mibbe it's an age thing.
druidh - I agree, I get jelly legs in the morning from too much riding so commute 4 days a week now. Having said that, my day of rest is also my climbing day, so it's not much of a rest.
Have had the "jelly leg" syndrome a coupla times on returning home. Midly amusing for the wife as I stagger thro the door!
It definately helps me, I ride it like a race- keep track of top speeds and times- and that does make a difference, gives me a reason to push. It doesn't help my stamina much it seems but it's certainly made me stronger and improved my spinning too. But it does leave me knackered if I do it too often, I don't commute on a friday if I know I'll have a decent length ride on the saturday.
Can you not extend it if it bothers you?
