i have stupidly signed up for a innerleithan uplift day.
question is, are the other trails (caddon bank and stuff) easily accessable from the drop off point.
so if you just wanted the lift up and then use the other descent would that be feasable?
thanks dudes............ ๐
Make or break is pretty good, and spits you out right at the top of caddon bank. ๐
As above Make or Brake or if you trundle a bit further along the track where you get dropped off you can miss the first part of make or brake and do this nice jumpy section through the woods. We felt it was better than the first section of make or brake.
When you pop out the woods you can carry on to Make or brake or double d or go left for a run (don't know name) but it spits you out on the track where Caddon Bank starts. You just need to turn right at the bottom and cycle for a couple of minutes or take one of the 2 mad downhill runs in front of you. One was nice, the other was way too steep for me
At lunchtime when the bus stops for an hour, take last bus before lunch and ride along the track here you get dropped off and keep going until you pick up the red, climb up to Minch moor and race down to get the first bus up after lunch break. Its doable.
Have fun. its a great day out IME
As above, you don't have to do the really steep stuff but it's nice to give it a try, think we got 8 or 9 runs in during the day. First run down was a blue due to too much beer in Peebles the night before!! Don't forget ya full face lid ๐
All the DH trails are rideable by beginners with little experience at low speed except Gold which is a bit steep and Matador which is steep and wacky.
Make or Brake is brilliant but watch out for the jumps at the top - you need to commit to them or you will do a whoops. Best to roll them the first couple times.
Make or brake is really flowy and fun. Upper Cresta is brilliant too. Ach they're all brilliant - have fun!
I miss Scotland!!
no jumps will be getting done.
this is purely a way to get some kind of riding in for a day.
as long as i can get to some of the other downward based trails i will be a happy bloke.
cheers all.
Which date have you signed up for? Once you get dropped off you've got the option of pushing to the very top or heading from the middle road that the bus drops you on. There are plenty of options heading down from either that you'll have plenty of fun on.
The people there are all usually very friendly so you should be able to ask someone about which trails are and aren't suitable. Completely agree about starting on Make or Brake, if you are happy enough with Caddon Bank it's like an extension of that anyway. Some of the enduro routes are great too if you can find the start of them.
There's a lot of rooty stuff at the top and the bottom of Gold is pretty steep but I'm sure you'll have a blast.
When I'm trying a trail I've never done before from an uplift I try to set off after most people have gone. This gives you a free trail to yourself to get used to but might mean you're pushing it to get on the next bus - shouldn't do at Inners as there's a good gap between runs.
The thing about Make or Brake, is that after the first bit it's just jumps. But, you can do something similiar to what Coolhandluke suggests... Head down Make or Brake, and when the trees end- there'll probably be obvious tyre tracks- pull off to the left. That'll take you onto the pushup path. Now you can go down the sort of landrover-track-looking bit to your left a little, then that reenters the woods and does some roots, some nice berms, etc (New Luge?) with various options, and takes you down to the fireroad.
Or if you're a hoodlum, you can ride down the pushup path! Which quickly splits in two- stay left- into the old, officially closed, Magic Carpet. Very nice trail- watch out for the 2 big rollery/droppy things, if you take them too fast you'll get air you've not planned for.
(I don't usually advocate riding places where the FC doesn't want you to... But Magic Carpet was rather stupidly closed just to provide a short and fairly pointless pushup that doesn't go right up the hill, and only a short part doubles up with the path anyway, most of the trail is fine)
Hope you have a blast- we're just in from innerleithen, had a great day in a weird mix of mud and dust.
