I've just weighed my bike, and was a bit surprised to see that it's over 30lbs, according to my possibly not that accurate Aldi scales.
It's an 18" Inbred, with most of the original Deore group left - front is now a double with SLX mech, but still HT2 Octalink & original rear mech & cassette.
Forks are a pair of coil / air Marzocchis - XC600s I think.
Stem is a cheapy, approx 100g heavier than it could be, but bars are protapers (275g). Saddle could also be a touch lighter as it's the original Inbred one (300g).
Front wheel is an original On-one built one, Reetard rim with a Dog hub, and the rear is a Deore hub with a 521. Tyres are 2.1 folding Nevegals. Brakes are Magura Julies, old low pressure variety.
Is there anything on there that's screamingly heavy? I can see a couple of hundred grams that can be shaved off cheaply - a new stem and saddle. Not keen on going for less than a 521 on the rims as I get to avoid ever having wheels trued ๐
As you may have guessed from the last sentence, I'm not too keen on spending huge sums ๐
Edit: shifters are windowless LX, seatpost is the original On-one twelfty, which again, is of sane weight.

The frame.
wheels and tyres, frame, forks...
As above, the frame.
Everything is moderately heavy, but don't worry about it as long as it rides well. It's never going to be a lightweight bike.
Everything is moderately heavy
That was pretty much what I was expecting. I built it to be as low maintenance as possible.
Nevegals feel positively lightweight at 580g a piece compared with steel bead Albert / RQ ๐
The frames are pretty heavy - as heavy as a BFe I think (my BFe with Coil Pikes, SLX drivetrain and XT wheels is 30.9lbs).
My wife has a 14" Inbred with 100mm Fox Floats, Hope/X317 wheels, Conti Speed Kings, XT drivetrain, Deore brakes and Easton EA70/EA50 finishing kit and that's 28lbs.
My own 18" Inbred is built as a singlespeed with Pace RC31's, Deore brakes and Deore/X223 wheels and even that's 23.5lbs.
I weighed my 20" inbred. No gears and _really_ cheap parts. 25.5 lbs
For you, change wheels or frame
wheels would be the biggy I'd say. My 16" inbred (geared) is roughly 28lbs and there's nothing overly light on it.
It sounds like in your case its a lot of little things being a bit heavier than they need to all adding up!
