Ilkley Moor - trail...

Ilkley Moor - trail sanitisation, surfacing

It looks like trail sanitising has reached a new level of blue, wide, smooth, artificial trail in a 'repair' of the trail dropping from the cow and calf car park down the front to Ilkley. It's apparently a multi user trail repairing braiding and minimise run off. For me it's a dangerous scar on a beautiful natural moor that I've ridden for years that now will create conflict as riders see it as a high speed descent into Ilkley

See if I can work out how to get imagery

trail 3

trail 3

Not sure if there is anything to do or we just accept rolling sanitisation and ride elsewhere

Deep sigh

If it's the trail I am thinking of, then that is a massive shame 😞

Next stage is to add gates every few 100 yards to slow down bikes.....

That’s awful. I was surprised by the bit they’ve done leading to the boardwalk from buck stones, but the bit post above is completely inappropriate

How else are you meant to walk up it in the summer in flip flops?

This ^ is probably the main reason. It's a very popular spot for people to get out of their car and "wander about a bit"

Presumably Bradford council

...you're here from facebook's Ilkley Chat?

As long as they've left the bracken cornice in place over the 2m drop along the top section...

Ah well, that's it for the moor. Everyone will have to go and ride somewhere else now. I hear Harden Moor's nice.
