I've just got back from Afghanistan and have a big pile of cash and lots of leave. The weather here is depressing me, can anyone suggest somewhere sunny (or at least less rainy) I can go and ride my bike for a couple of weeks?
Cheers
Southern Spain/Morocco/Sicily/Canaries/Turkey/West Indies.
Riding in Northern Italy is some of my personal favourite, but the weather there will be on the turn now.
Personally I'd be looking at southern Spain at the moment for a warm break with good riding and a short flight.
+1 costa rica
Atlas mountains, Morocco
or if you really want to delve into your pile of cash how about the USA ? Mexico, Guatemala and Peru also worth looking at for mountain biking.
Southern Spain would be top of my list too.
Warm, dry most of the time, big rocky mountains, fantastic trails.
Come to think of it, can I come with you?
It does depend how far you want to go, but South America would rock. As would New Zealand come to that... ๐

SOOOO envious of this bit ๐
Morocco..
Get a few days on one of the cities also - Fez ??
switch-backs.com are in Southern Spain
Some climbing involved (felt like arround 500m per day, with 2000m+ decending. But the trails from the top of the hills were awesome.
Arrive Saturday, maybe a quick ride to the top of the mountain (40minutes or so on the road), decend down some steep/rocky/susty track to the village, dinner, beer, bed.
Sunday-Tuesday riding
Wednesday - rest day (we opted to go it alone and rode one of the erlier days without the uplift, it hurt but was manageable, but definately not reast!)
Thursday-Friday - Ride
Saturday - in the bus at 7am for the flight home.
Just got back from a week with Joy-riders in Spain. Enjoyed it so much I have just booked a return trip! Definitely recommended on all fronts.
I'm off with them Saturday. Looking foward to some good weather.
You sods for posting that up.
Thanks for all the advice. Looks like Southern Spain I think.
