so when using gps tracking on my i phone it kills the battery quick, anyone here tried a little solar charger (on handlebars for instance) will it top up my phone enough to get a days riding in?
and are the £10 ones on ebay a lot worse than the £30 - £70 ones ?
are you sure your holding it right?
You'd need something about 2 foot by 2 foot to charge an iPhone whilst using gps.
The good little ones take 8 hours in bright sunlight to charge a phone.

I really wanted to use it to track when doing the coast to coast ride

You could get a battery powered charger. I have one that will charge my nokia from a single AA. It came with a load of different plugs for other phones.

Anyone used a hub dynamo to charge phones? Mine runs an LED at night, but could it be modded to run a charger?
There was a USB bike converter on ebay a while ago, £25, but I think they've stopped making it 🙁
I've got a power monkey. The solar cell can be separated from the storage part of it- if this was fully charged, you could just plug that into your iphone to try and keep the charge topped up.
