The first three years, we cycled Cardiff to London, approx. 170 miles in 2 days. The downside is we cycled to London, hence 10-20 riders per year.
Last year we cycled Holyhead to Cardiff, 217 miles, awesome scenery, great riding and the 48 riders raised £12k for our charity EFOD.
We need to plan a route for this year, but need to keep the entry cost around £50, including transport, accommodation, food and support staff. We intend to finish in Cardiff, but need suggestions for a suitable epic route. Given the ability range, 200-220 miles is the max and it has to be achievable in a weekend (with travel on the Friday).
Our suggestions so far are:-
Holyhead to Cardiff again.
Fishguard to Cardiff (coast roads)
Skegness to Cardiff (coast to coast)
Lands End to Cardiff (bit long at around 240 miles)
Dublin to Cardiff (via Rosslare/Fishguard, but ferry costs a problem).
Offa's Dyke
Any suggestions? We are aiming for late July this year.
Skegness to Cardiff (coast to coast)
I'd say it looks good.
Forgot to say that it needs to be suitable for all bikes too. Last year ranged from carbon road bikes to full-sus and the odd 20 year-old found it in a canal bike. There was even an Aussie muppet who did it ss (and completed).
