As a Shimano person I'm in the dark about what I'm looking for.
Press fit and the bottom bracket measures 86mm.

Press fit is fine as long as the BB is good and the frame is square.

Yup, my shimano BB92 lasts pretty much exactly as well as the screw-in equivalent. Nothing really wrong with pressfit as a concept, it's just been done badly a lot. And it seems like truvativ/sram in particular loved it, and of course they've never been able to make bottom brackets that aren't shit

Hope - expensive but worth it. The two press fit cups have a thru tube to tie both together. Incredibly smooth & free spinning once bedded.
Website has a guide to which one you need.

There was a thread on here last year on the horizon bb, the Uberbike ones have alloy cups housed in nylon, personally haven't used pressgit or GXP but had excellent performance from Uber threaded bottom brackets.

Edit, genuine spelling mistake above but I'll leave it there.

Hope's threaded together pf41 is costly then the tool to fit is also costly then there's an adapter for GXP, it all adds up.
Wheels mfg has a much cheaper option and cheaper tool but requires a more careful install so not for the ham fisted mechanic.

any BB86/92 GXP BB will fit but note that some are dedicated GXP designs (Sram, Wheels Man.) and some are basically 'Shimano' pressfits (24mm each side) with a reducer spacer on the nondriveside (Hope, Token).

Both designs work fine and there's no standout winner (unlike Evie Richards). The spacer versions have more flexibility in the future though, as you can more easily fit replacement bearings.

[Note that you can't (reliably) retrofit the spacer to a Shimano BB, as the inner bearing surface is placky, not metal, and if you buy the Hope BB then notch the spacer before fitting, so you can get it out in the future]

There’s a difference between GXP and HT2 in terms of how they manage the axial load so whilst in theory it should work, running GXP in at HT2 might not last very long as they’re succeptible to overloading and rapid wear if the wavy washer gets fully compressed on install. Wheels Manufacturing screw-together would be my choice - one side does need pressing in.

Get a Wheels Manufacturing one that the cups screw together.

Which one ?

Do they need a specific tool?

I've seen them for £65 at bikeparts.co.uk,
BB86 24/22 for gxp cranks, their own wheels mfg tool using 16 notch 48.5mm interface but other companies make them.
Not used bikeparts but check trustpilot and this forum.

Yeah. IIRC you don't have to buy one from them (££), it's another standard (raceface, maybe?), so you can grab a cheaper version from ebay.

EDIT: It's FSA MegaExo - this one worked fine for me.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VKLA7E/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_pd_te_s_rtpb_ti?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002VKLA7E&pd_rd_r=VWHYR7M4X0TWPC9GEV51&pd_rd_w=RsSKD&pd_rd_wg=oqwK2&pf_rd_p=6b6fbd0c-a136-46a1-a57e-3245f6d8188a

I didn't find installation that hard, and I'm hamfisted. Follow the instructions carefully and make sure it's going in straight!

Is it a really nice crank? If it's a lower end one I'd sack it and replace with a crank that has a proper BB standard, it needs to be pretty high end to make it worth feeding it more money
