[Closed] hub swap: question for the wheelbuilders

Evening,

I have an XT M775 front hub laced to an XD Lite Alex rim. I want to swop the hub so I can run bolt thru forks. Does any one know if I can use a Hope ProII and keep same spokes? I'm guessing that the diameter of spoke holes on the hubs is what determines a yay or nay.. but not sure about the intricate technicalities of these sizings or the specific spoke lengths required, or where to find info!
Would like to have a go at this myself as have a truing stand.. and feel reasonably confident. If the ProII requires additional spends in new spokes, any idea if the Shimano bolt thru hubs will allow a straight swop?
Any tips and pointers gratefully received.
Many thank yous for your time..

unless they have more than about 6mm diameter difference in the spoke holes it should be ok

That's a long question to answer from a phone!

You need to find the hub dimensions for each hub, then bang them into an online spoke calculator. (DT Swiss, Wheelpro both have one on their sites)

There's several dimensions: flange offset, PCD, spoke hole diameter. Hub manufacturers will provide this or you can measure it yourself. Oh, and you'll need the effective rim diameter (ERD) of your rim as well

It's easy once you've googled the specs! ๐Ÿ™‚

PP's right, but you only need a notional ERD to see if the spoke lengths are the same. Saying that, I doubt they are.

Xt flange size 44mm/41mm.
Pro2 flange size 56mm/54mm.
New spokes I'm afraid.Plug the numbers into spoke calc to find out what size or just take it to lbs to do.

I swapped my 29er front from XT to Pro2, but it was the older M756 hub. There was a difference in dims for the offset & flange, but SpokeCalc & DTSwiss's calc gave exactly the same spoke length for both.
