Hi, a mate of mine has a new trek top fuel bike and within 4 rides the rear wheel has developed quite a lot of play in it. Obviously this cant be right, assuming that they are sealed cartidge bearings in there, is there any way that the play can be taken up ? Or is it just a bad set of wheels, and therefore a warranty repair / exchange ?

I had the bearing on a bonty hub replaced as warranty...no quibbles.

They're DT hub internals (although they seem to have stopped admitting that!) and are normally very reliable. Pop it back to the dealer.

I've got a Bonty Race Disc Tubeless rear wheel and I replaced the bearings yesterday (6000 2RS) after about 9 months use.

The nuts can need tightening if the bearing moves a bit after first use, but on mine you need a 19mm cone spanner (to do the job simply) and they are quite rare.

Get the shop to nip it up and se if the play goes away.
