Hi guys,

Autumn is here, I have a cold and its raining. 🙁

I was looking at the Howies Dyfi jacket as a windproof shell for road riding. Is it any good? Seems hard to find reviews/opinions.

Worth a punt for 30 quid from wiggle?

For a lightweight windproof, yes its worth £30 but don't expect it to keep you dry in rain!

Great for a windbreaker on the MTB. Handles spray and fine rain well but not fully waterproof.

Panels under the arm and sides are Jersey type material for breathability but make the jacket a touch heavier and not as packable as a pure pertex jacket so harder to fit in a jersey pocket.

Love mine for MTB, would go lighter for road, or proper waterproof.

I've only done a little road riding - I only have some short bibs, and a short sleeve jersey. I'm trying to work out what clothing I need next. It's another world outside of baggies and a camelbak to put stuff in.

45 minute walk home in drizzle last night and mine kept me drier than I thought it would.
Worth £30 (£29 after Quidco).
Sizes up quite small. It could do with slightly longer arms and body for road riding imho, but I got mine mainly for running so it's ok

EDIT: One minor criticism. The zip on the stuff pocket should be double sided as zipping it up once packed down is a pain.

gravity-slave, what lighter packable shell would you recommend? For less than a 100, some roadie gear is crazy money!

Chipps seems to like it in the current mag review.

Have to say I think their bib shorts are really good for the money, they seem to have got to grips with cycling kit

I'm 42" chest and 6ft2" and the large is spot on with a baselayer and jersey underneath. makes a great pub coat too, light weight and not costing the earth if i wear the beer cardigan on the way home and forget it
