I'm after a focus to get me out and riding- thought this looks like a good challenge- what are your views.
Cheers

Depends on what you call a good ride. It is what I would call 'old skool riding'; it's not technical, it's through breathtaking countryside, there is a lot of uphill, there are very few trees, a lot of it is over sheep-trimmed grass moorland which can have a velcro-like efect on your tyres, there is some but not a lot of tarmac. Every year some people will do it on CX bikes. A lot of people do the shorter route. If you're fit enough the longer route is well worth it (you can decide at the cut-off point on the day). There is usually a great atmosphere both at the campsite and on the ride.

How tough? Depends on your fitness. It's either a non-technical blast or a long, hilly slog 8)

Fitness is not good at the moment hence why I'm looking for a challenge to focus on - would look to do the short route and do like the open countryside feel.

psling +1

Good event, I've unkindly described the Kington / Herefordshire / Builth area as driving in Teletubbie land as after 5 or 6 hours it all looks the same. That said its a great event with a good camaraderie about it

I did it [s]this[/s] last year and contrary to psling thought there was loads of tarmac, especially the first 10km.
Also lots of unrideable stuff unlike the HONC which only had one unrideable climb last year.

Beautiful scenery though.

Have a look at our new event Heaven

Last did it a couple of years ago and it was all rideable; although there was one climb after the halfway feed stop that had me off and walking I'm sure some were clearing it.

Preferred the Dyfi last year that's for sure.
