Went for my first ride of the year and was left so far behind it became a joke! I actually turned round and went home 30 mins into the ride. Whats the fastest way of getting my fitness back on track? Im 44, wife 2 kids and the rest, so time is not plentiful. I was thinking of cycling to work but its 14 miles away and i start at 6.30am so it would mean getting up at 4.45!! So not sure what to do, ive never been mega fit but i got thrashed by a guy 10 years older than me who i thrashed last year, that doesn't bother me too much as i just want to keep up! Any help would be appreciated. Armo

Get a turbo trainer? Or rollers if you get bored easily, means you could still watch the kids or be at home if needed whilst training.

Dont turn back before you're enjoying yourself.

Ride, I fit in 3 - 4 rides a week, summer/ winter set times. Am married with kids and 40. the wife knows my cycling times and we live around them. Only cycle for an hour each time, but keeps me fit.

14 miles and you need 1 hour 45 mins to get there.....
Get a cheap turbo trainer and use it while watching films a few nights a week. You should be able to do the 14 miles comfortably under the hour.
Interval training is the quickest way to build fitness.

I'm out of the house 6:30am to 6:30pm, a 2 year old son, and a wife who works longer hours, and less social hours so my chance to get out on the bike are rare. That and being off the bike for 6 months due to pneumonia has left me quite unfit.

The answer for me was a turbo trainer and sufferfest. In no time I already feel like I could just about go out with friends and not lag a long way behind.

Yeah i get home about 5.30, so a turbo trainer could be a good idea, i go to the gym twice a week and quad bike when ever so time really is tight. 4.45am would include getting up/ready, something to eat, getting the bike out etc. Thanks for all the replies
