Clean your road bike, that is...

Mine got it's 6 monthly clean yesterday and my face, arms and clothes, yet again got splattered with black roadgrime/oil.

So, presuming you don't do it after every ride, how often does yours get a proper clean to stop it becoming the chore it is for me when I get round to it?

Twice a year? Are you MAD? I only clean mine when something breaks and I can't find what it is under the filth!

I never 'wash' it, not like the xc and dh bike get a wash, it never needs it, wipe with cloth and a chain lube is all it ever needs.

When it gets dirty, which could mean after each ride, or could mean once a week.
Basically I don't let it sit about covered in muck because it's an expensive piece of stuff.

road bike - every ride.
mountain bike - never.

Every time I use it.
Which is about once every 6 months 🙂

My 'proper'/good road bike gets the dust wiped off every couple of rides but then it never gets ridden in the rain.

My cross bike/road bike for whenever it's not completely dry gets a hose down after a muddy/very wet ride but that's about it. Maybe a proper clean before a race or HONC though.

My road bike is nearly all white - frame, saddle, bar tape etc. It looks wrong when its dirty but I still don't wash it every ride, maybe once a month.

You are a roadie and I claim my carbon bottle cage 😉

It wouldn't be possible to clean mine every ride, as it's used for commuting - all weathers, hence the sh1tty state it gets in.

Good bike - it does get wet (and muddy, when it gets taken off piste), so often enough to ensure that the drivetrain is in good nick.

Full wash and service yesterday before heading off to the Étape....

Commuter/winter bike - irregulkarly at best. Which is why I go through drivetrains and wheels faster than I ought to.

MTB - when it's really filthy and the brakes and/or drivetrain don't work.

When rebuilding/servicing, or when mtb is filthy or I am at GT and the jetwash queue is short.
