[Closed] How many studs did your tyre lose in the Puffer?

Just been for a walk down Dog Dodgers.

The braking areas are littered with lost studs glittering in the morning sun.

They're all lying around in little clusters. If you see one shining, then there's probably a dozen within a foot of it.

It might be because it wasn't really ice tyre weather - there wasn't a coat of ice over 99% of the course, so maybe rocks were ripping them out more readily. You could really hear ice tyre riders scrabbling on a lot of sections of the course.

No idea they were only on because I CBA changing over to the narrow muds 85% of the course wanted.

Could that be because folks hadn't bedded in their spikers as per the manufacturers instructions?

I didn't check mike when I finally got round to taking them off last night. I might check when I get home

Because of the way I found the clusters I'm curious about the pattern of stud shedding.

Were studs lost in multiple in some situations, eg I can see how some of the rocky grooves could clean out the side studs on both sides of the tyre.

Or is it simply the aggregate of all the shedding*?

So if your bike has bald patches of studs, it could be the first.

And yeah, I know this is bike nerd stuff. 🙂

* The most likely scenario IMO.

Counted 20 out of the front and more from the rear, would say partly down to not bedding in correctly

Were a help in certain areas but hear they fighting with the rocks in others...

Did bed mine in (oddly enough, as usually wouldn’t bother with that sort of nonsense!) but still lost quite a few more than 10 from each tyre. I’ll need to stop by contin during the summer and see if I can find some to put back in...they are meant to be replaceable aren’t they?

I didnt ride this year but i reckon the studs have mostly fallen out backwards after the knob has ripped off.

Dead easy to replace though

I've lost a total of 18 studs from 1 tyre and none from the other. I'm assuming the tyre that lost the studs was on the rear. Quite a few torn knobs. The losses were fairly evenly spread round the tyre.

They were well bedded in, the tyres are old and have been used at previous puffers. I didn't  check for missing studs before the race though but I know I was down a few on one of them.
