I've a MK2 frame that I got off here last year that was in need of chain stay repairs. I was Stooge curious and this seemed like a good way to try one.

Ben at The Bike Cabin in Chorley sorted out a repair and powder coating for me for a very reasonable price. I'd recommend him to anyone in the area.

Mine is running as a 27.5 plus single speed and is great fun.

I have had mk1, mk3 and currently I own mk4. They were in all possible wheel/fork configurations and colours. Loved them all. Still loving of course!

And I'm not based in UK 😁

@stwhannah - I assumed yours was a long term test bike. Do you actually own it now? 👍
Still singlespeed?

@ajantom yes, I bought it after the test. It's still singlespeed - the intention was to keep it that way for commuting, but without commutes I really should add some gears to it to make it more Calderdale friendly. Or at least a smaller chainring.

I keep hankering for a MK1 to turn into a proper monstercrosser to go with my MK4, they're suitably different that I think it would work without too much cross over.

@stwhannah if you can’t commute you might as well just get rid of it. It would pain me to do so, but I suppose I could give it a new home.

@stwhannah - Dingle it 😁
Nearly as hassle free as SS, but with one extra steep hill friendly gear.

Thing is about stooges they are soooo good.

Not many MTBs are designed to be purely rigid these days with no compromises (only jones?).

A normal hardtail puts your weight further forward over the suspension fork. Fitting a rigid fork to a hardtail will just make an uncomfortable rigid bike. A stooge brings your weight back, and the fork offset puts the 29+ wheel way out front meaning the stooge remains comfortable over even very rough ground. Not a boneshaker at all.

Yes you have to peg it back a notch or two on rock gardens and pick lines vs an FS bike, but thats part of the charm of riding it.

I have a Mk2, a Mk3 and a Mk4. The Mk 4 is my main bike and the Mk 2 and 3 are spares for mates and my kids (once in a blue moon).
Had a number of different setups over the years, including a Mk1 SS specific which I regret selling. Possibly my favourite was the Mk2, Ti fork with B++ front and B+ rear but the Mk1 SS with Carbon rims and light/strong components was up there too.
Seriously considering SS'ing the Mk4 for the late Winter, early Spring to kick start the bike fitness ready for a nice, long, dry Spring, Summer season (hopefully)

I must admit I really fancy a scrambler, its the one that has appealed to me the most as a 29er inbred replacement as a do it except uplift and dirt jumping bike.

@funkmasterp nice try! But then what would I ride? I'm not good at choosing, I get overwhelmed.

Hi Nick, hope you are well. No, its the 'singing bridge' as I have named it up on the Berkshire downs near Blewbury from last Summer.
Met a farmer on his MTB. Stopped and chatted and said his father used to be a train driver on the now disused railway between Didcot and Southampton, during war time. He used to ferry soldiers to the docks. He said that they all used to sing on the trains. After the war, he used to walk up the the bridge with his father and he said that he could hear these souls singing when on the bridge. Must admit that the furlough time I had this year and learning about the local history has been amazing and loved it. Was surreal looking over the bridge walls at the now empty ditch thinking of the soldiers heading south.........
Hi Cokie, sadly its still happy in its current home 🙂

My dad was stationed on a ex bomber base in East Anglia for a bit in the early 60's and he wasn't the only one to report hearing  bombers taking off.

Anyway; if looked like the Chiltern line by Princes Risborough (near where the Great Train Robbery happened. Keep well!

@easdoesit what fork are you using on you Mk3. Tempted to set up my Mk3 with a fat front. Interested to hear what you're running in the rear? B+ I assume?

@guitarhero Kinesis maxlight fork, has the same 55mm offset. I have a 27.5 X 3.8 minion fbf up front and a 27.5 X 3.0 high roller on rear. Works well. The high roller has a pretty tall profile.

@easdoesit Thanks, other than the tyre choice, I was using a Hodag, that's how my Mk3 was setup before I got the Mk4. It's a great setup though but in the spirit of trying something new I was thinking about 4.8" up front

I’ve got one, albeit not a full on mtb, but a gravel bike. Absolutely love it. I’m in Wyre Forest and see a couple of Stooges mtb about.

With my Scrambler due to be sold on when the Dirtbomb arrives I’ve started having thoughts about keeping it and going singlespeed monster cross style. Anyone done ‘owt like this with theirs?

@bonzodog looking forward to seeing some mk5 builds coming out.

I was going to hang out for a mk5 but got lucky and managed to get a mk4 which I posted about on this thread 8 months ago...it's now done over 1500 miles since. Favourite bike I've ever owned.

And I am the lucky owner of said Mk4.

Built it around tanwall 27.5 x 2.8 Rekon+ on Enve/CK wheels, SLX and XT 11sp drivetrain and full width Moto bars on a 35mm stem.

Also eschewed the dropper on this build and don’t really miss it that much in truth - one less thing to go wrong! I do have one in the garage though, for when the riding crew want to go ride something silly.

Paid for my Mk5 and very excited. Porting parts of another bike so won’t be fancy. Apart from the stooge bars I have. But it will be fun!

I bought a MK2 about 2 months ago. Running 27.5x3". I've pulled it back a bit from where it was with Jones bars for bikepacking.
Waiting for a Rambler...
Will do me for (hopeful) multi rides. And Dunoon Dirt Dash next year.

Previously owned a Mk3 which I also gelled with instantly, but the Dirtbomb is so good looking to boot

My MK4 had been languishing in the garage, as I've been enjoying the gears and 150mm suspension on my DMR Trailstar.

Finally pulled it out for a singlespeed ride yesterday, and did 45km including some decent size drops and doubles.
Great fun 😎
