Been given some DT 1800 wheels, I'm 14 stone though and wondering wether 28 spokes is enough? I've been riding some hope xc /mavic 918 32 spoke for years with no probs [save a few tweaks every now & then]
General xc / trail riding for me, on a 4" [but quite tough] trail bike.
Anyone used these wheels / experience with lower spoke counts?
Bontrager wheels on the likes of the Trek Remedy and Fisher Roscoe full susser are 28 spoke. They seem to hold up to a fair bit of abuse and usualy fail because of the alloy nipples.
If you are on a hardtail I'd go 32.
I've been running 28 Spoke Bontrager Elites on DT swiss hubs on a 5" full susser for over a year and I'm around the 14 stone mark, give or take the odd pie.
You'll be fine. Mine put up with a hell of a lot of abuse including the a trip to the Alps without complaint. I managed to kink a back rim recently. But to be honest, any rim would have srtuggled with the enormous(ly clumsy) pinch-flatted landing that finished it off.
I've had another Bontrager Elite rim wired to the hub without any concerns
Thanks,
Looks like I'll give them a go on the full sus and switch the 32 spoke set to my ss hardtail
