To brake with...
I use 2.
Both hands 😯
James Herriot, me
1 for the rear and 2 for the front - no idea why
Just the one, get cramp if i use 2.
How ever many the Mrs asks for, though sometimes I like to surprise her.
1
1 on the DH bike, 1 on the XC. No reason to use any more
1 for the goo, 2 for the poo... Oh brakes...
1 index finger only
Kit Kat Shuffle for me - two on each brake 😆
1 for the goo, 2 for the poo... Oh brakes...
😆
Fist.
If you are using more than one finger with disk brakes, something is amiss......
It was two on each but jedi moved my levers and now it's only one on each.
I think I need some new brakes then, although I could easily throw my self over the bars with one finger on the front but I cant lock the rear with 1 finger.
Contaminated disc/pads me thinks.
It was two on each but jedi moved my levers and now it's only one on each.
I tried this but for some reason I still continued to move my hand onto the flange on the grip so I could use 2 fingers....
2.
1 on each hand. 😀
2 fingers for the last 20 years. But you can teach old dogs new tricks and now I only use 1 finger, and it feels so much better.
It was two on each but jedi moved my levers and now it's only one on each.
that's a good point actually. I can't believe the number of people I see with their fingers half-way down the lever blade!

I don't think this is true. Just something made up by the mags (and others).
I've been riding since the old calliper brakes and it took 2 fingers to stop, so 2 fingers just naturally go on the brake levers. From v-brakes to discs, still 2 fingers. I can make a conscious effort to use 1 finger, but it makes not a jot of difference.
However I've just orders new XTs and the lever is only long enough for 1 fingered braking, so my brain will probably re-train my fingers.
i use two but lately if its not too tricky a decent ive begun to use one (wot a clever girlie i am...lol 😉
One. Two just feels...wrong to me.
Just something made up by the mags (and others).
Nope, adjusting your brake setup for maximum leverage (one finger on the end of the lever) which in turn allows a better grip on the bars makes a massive amount of sense.
I know that if I tried two finger braking on a DH run, that my face would meet stem before too long!
If you need to use 2 you are obviously queer
On my old hope minis-one, then two, then three, then foot on back tyre, then throw the anchor overboard and then maybe you'd stop.On my new xtrs...one,very lightly 🙂
Actually I used to brake with just my ring finger (less arm pump on rigid forks!) but the xtr levers are so short you have no choice but to use your index finger.Took me a little while to convert.
Move your brakes inboard for max leverage and use only one finger on each hand for braking.
Anything else is mental.
I found it reduced my arm pump on the downhill bike to nil at Fort William.
Saint brakes on DH bike and XT on trail bike.
Can easily lock both ends with one finger.
HT/FS (disc) - one on each hand
Missus' HT with kiddie seat (rim) - two each hand
Rigid commuter (cantis) - 4 each hand and I still can't stop sometimes!
Fancy a bum Flow?
It wasn't moving them in that made the difference, it was moving them up. (i then moved them in)
As many as feels appropriate.
Also, I sit on my hands first to get them good and numb.
1.
None. Death grip FTW.
How ever many the Mrs asks for, though sometimes I like to surprise her.
"Ooh, careful darling, mind your ring"
"Um, actually that was my wris****ch"
1 for the rear and 2 for the front - no idea why
Me too.
onzadog, you knows it 😉
2 on my Ht but 1 on my FS.
I think we ladies just tend to have smaller hands and therefore feel comfort in having 2 fingers.
I'll move my levers again tomorrow and try again like 1.5"-2" should do it. Lift them up a little too by the sounds of it.
2 or 3, i don't really grip the bars at all, my hand kinda rests over the brakes all the time..Is there any benefit to using one finger?
I still continued to move my hand onto the flange
Fnarr Fnarr.
One - but my index / second finger not the first.
I used to use one finger on each, then I got Saints. Now I just use the power of my mind, fingers give too much leverage.
8, today on my commute, which stopped the wheels but not the bike.
Got to love 23mm tyres 😡
none - I dont brake, its for wusses
1 on the front 2 on the back for some strange reason, couldn't tell you why it's just what I do.
