If you are using more than one finger with disk brakes, something is amiss......

It was two on each but jedi moved my levers and now it's only one on each.

I think I need some new brakes then, although I could easily throw my self over the bars with one finger on the front but I cant lock the rear with 1 finger.

Contaminated disc/pads me thinks.

I tried this but for some reason I still continued to move my hand onto the flange on the grip so I could use 2 fingers....

2 fingers for the last 20 years. But you can teach old dogs new tricks and now I only use 1 finger, and it feels so much better.

that's a good point actually. I can't believe the number of people I see with their fingers half-way down the lever blade!

I don't think this is true. Just something made up by the mags (and others).
I've been riding since the old calliper brakes and it took 2 fingers to stop, so 2 fingers just naturally go on the brake levers. From v-brakes to discs, still 2 fingers. I can make a conscious effort to use 1 finger, but it makes not a jot of difference.
However I've just orders new XTs and the lever is only long enough for 1 fingered braking, so my brain will probably re-train my fingers.

Nope, adjusting your brake setup for maximum leverage (one finger on the end of the lever) which in turn allows a better grip on the bars makes a massive amount of sense.

I know that if I tried two finger braking on a DH run, that my face would meet stem before too long!

On my old hope minis-one, then two, then three, then foot on back tyre, then throw the anchor overboard and then maybe you'd stop.On my new xtrs...one,very lightly 🙂
Actually I used to brake with just my ring finger (less arm pump on rigid forks!) but the xtr levers are so short you have no choice but to use your index finger.Took me a little while to convert.

Move your brakes inboard for max leverage and use only one finger on each hand for braking.

Anything else is mental.

I found it reduced my arm pump on the downhill bike to nil at Fort William.

Saint brakes on DH bike and XT on trail bike.

Can easily lock both ends with one finger.

HT/FS (disc) - one on each hand
Missus' HT with kiddie seat (rim) - two each hand
Rigid commuter (cantis) - 4 each hand and I still can't stop sometimes!

It wasn't moving them in that made the difference, it was moving them up. (i then moved them in)

As many as feels appropriate.

Also, I sit on my hands first to get them good and numb.

2 on my Ht but 1 on my FS.
I think we ladies just tend to have smaller hands and therefore feel comfort in having 2 fingers.

I'll move my levers again tomorrow and try again like 1.5"-2" should do it. Lift them up a little too by the sounds of it.

I run my levers far in, i.e.

I therefore only need one finger!

2 or 3, i don't really grip the bars at all, my hand kinda rests over the brakes all the time..Is there any benefit to using one finger?

Mind the shit on the middle of the bars.

How I use to have it. I still used 2 fingers, was holding onto the lock rings!

So I moved them in for comfort. I'm going to move them back out and up.

I used to use one finger on each, then I got Saints. Now I just use the power of my mind, fingers give too much leverage.
