[Closed] How many cycle commuter miles have you/we done today? - Friday 29th July

July has been the first complete month that our in-house cycle to work scheme has been operating and the majority of those who have taken part have been keeping a log of the number of miles covered. Rather astonishingly between us have covered 1000 miles. Not a massive figure, but for 8 of us, some of whom hadn’t ridden a bike in the last 25 years until 5 weeks ago, we’re quite pleased.

1000 miles

At 20 mph* average speed = 50 hours sat in a car
At 14p* per mile fuel = £140
In distance = Manchester to Slovenia

*please don’t argue with the figures, I’ve made them up and that is not the point of the thread 😉

So, today - July 29th - how many miles will the Singletrack massive have done just commuting (not interested in “playing out” miles) to work on their bikes? I’ll tot up the figures this afternoon and equate it to a distance and a cost saving.

I’ll start.

12 miles.

7 miles in so far

Harry_the_Spider are you going to come up with some scale of distance covered, like the trillion $ thread yesterday?

😉

Yes. I'm going to equate the fuel cost to Gregg's pasties.

Arse. Drove in this morning as I'm picking the beloved up on the way home

Can I include my 90 commuting miles so far this week though? And also the shocking confession that.... erm..... *whispers* .... I'm actually quite enjoying the road bike. Don't tell anyone though 😀

A big fat zero here as well. Not been on a bike since Thursday of last week, actually. 🙁

Still, it's late on a Friday now and time to get ready to go and have a cold beer at the poolside bar. So that makes up for it. 🙂

0.6m downhill. Not really worth getting the bike out, and the worst bit was I couldn't be bothered to go home and get my keys when I got to work and realised I had forgotten them.

How many miles will you do today commuting on your bike?
Total.
There and back.

About 10 probably less.

Walked roughly 40.

Car maybe 3.

My work is not even 1/4 miles away.

That's for the year.

10 in this morning, probably 15 home tonight as I'll do a little detour on the way home. It is Friday, after all. Plus it'll make that well deserved first pint taste that bit sweeter.

I think you'll find your post was the problem matey, not our replies!
How much have you done?
Well it's not 32.5 miles it's 15.5
The rest, I haven't done yet.
How many commuting miles will you do today is what you meant.

😛

12.5 miles this morning, another 12.5 if I cycle home, which I should, unless something unplanned happens.

5th cycling day this week, which will boast the average for July a bit.

30 miles today

We have had a cycle/walk to work day and as a company we have saved over 100 miles and the local paper have been around to take a picture.

These things make the news in Cumbria!

Yep. Much better than the original theme. 😀

I have calculated the results based on the data collected and between us we have saved enough money to buy a pork pie of indeterminate size.

Possibly.
