5 and a half...

1 5" full suss for crashing about on, although it's never been crashed and actually rarely gets ridden... Hmm.
1 singlespeed for blasting around trail centres and local trails (my fav bike)
1 nice road bike
1 fixed road bike for winter
1 hardtail, missing the frame (but everything else is ready)
1 tandem for me and the missus

It's time for a clearout though, so I think I'm going to sell nearly everything and get a new posh road bike, build a new winter bike and have just one geared mountain bike (probably a Soul or Bfe) for the odd time I get out in the hills, get up to one of the Staines or for towing a trailer...

Kind of excited about getting rid of everything and starting again (everyone loves a project, right?), and also can't really face the hassle of breaking everything up only to face the eBay questions...

3 whole bikes.
A cross/commuter
Hardtail/140
FS/160

One FS frameset/100mm
One cross rolling chassis

Wife can't complain too much though as she has two bikes as well.

most people on here seem to have the same problem I do - 'Just one more, just one more'

So far my collection includes:

A Trek XC bike with 100mm forks
A cheap(ish) Trek 1.7T road bike for commuting to work
A Santa Cruz Blur LT

About to order a Nicolai AFR built up for DH/FR in the Alps/Canada and seriously toying with idea of getting carbon or Ti 29er too.

Two - a brand spanking new Giant Anthem X4 FS with upgraded wheels and a girly saddle, and a 2001 Marin Nail Trail HT donated to husband.

Just sold the third one, a 1997 Carrera Instinct (no suspension) on the Bay for a decent price.

Who says all the girls have lower-specced bikes than their OHs? 8)

0. Just sold a frame to buy a frame and am waiting for the one coming my way to be stripped down.

I think the most I ever had was four and one of those never really got ridden (FS, SS, road SS, CX).

I've always been a firm believer of the saying,"you can only ride one bike at a time",that's why I have 7..... 8)

Each one rides a bit different to the other,
3 have bounce at both ends of various amounts...
2 only bounce at the front
2 have no bounce or gears at all(one of which also has silly sized wheels).
Like to swop'n'chop things every now & again so that one may have an odd sized wheel on the front,or road tyres & gears for a bit.Basically in any one week of the year I'll ride 3-4 different bike set-ups.
Change is good & keeps it fresh ๐Ÿ˜€

I think it's useful having some overlap. My HT is awaiting a brake repair and upgrade but it's OK, I can ride my FS while I'm waiting.

currently:
Ibis Mojo
Ragley mmmbop
Yeti 4x
(only 1 of these is rideable at any 1 time - use 1 build kit that fits all. Takes an hour to swap things over. Means i just need 1 of everything and not 3! (apart from chains, bb's and shifters.)

C'dale Badboy - getting punted for a Surly Cross Check built with some road kit i have to hand from a recently sold cube frame.

Hardtail - GT Zaskar - Retro racing and commuting through the winter
Trail Bike - Cannondale Prophet - Fun and trial centre stuff

Thinking seriously about getting a FS XC 29er for racing stuff like Bikefest and 100km events. I'd beef up the Prophet then for more freeride/downhilly stuff.

Also have another GT Zaskar frame which I might turn into single speed (or more likely x8 speed) winter/commuting/pub/going out with the kids/spare bike from left over bits.

After that I guess I might get a road bike for training etc. so I reckon anyone who needs more than 5 is seriously obsessed!

I should have added that, would be madness to have 7 of everything, darn expensive & take up loads of room.
Only 3 of them are complete bikes,
Two are just frames with h/set,bb,seatpost & saddle.
Two have everything on them minus the wheels & chain.Currently after a set of wheels or hubs to build up for one of the SS's

Everyone needs at least three. One full suss, one spare suss and a cx or road bike. If she complains tell her you could always spend the cash on booze and lap dancers.

Blur LT
Turner RFX
Dialled Prince Albert frame
CX set up for road

Surly 1x1 as main offroad bike - perfect for local trails
Cotic roadrat drop bar (built up as singlespeed crosser - 42:18) - for longer mixed road / off road rides
Geared (ageing) Gary Fisher hardtail - for child seat duties, trips to proper mountains and rare trail centre visits

Seems like a pretty good mix - if I was only to keep one, it would be the Surly, no question.
