How long would trails last if everyone rode them like they do in the videos? I.e. Sliding the rear out on every corner making a shower of dirt.

Just an idle musing whilst watching a mtb film.

Depends how much maintenance gets done after said riding

Depends if you like groomed trails or a bit a rough and ready.

How long would a trail made of bedrock last if Derbyshire County Council decided to dump hard-core on it?

Rough and natural for me. I hate smooth groomed trails.

Go up the golfy and check for yourself.

It's about two weeks

How long would trails last if everyone came down riding their brakes from top to bottom? Just go to a trail centre and look at the braking bumps in every corner. Trails get damaged if we ride them - maybe we should stop?

Skidding everywhere doesn't make "rough and natural", it generally makes "****ed and rubbish"

MTB videos aren't documentaries. Believe it or not, film makers will sprinkle dust and loose soil on corners and features where they want these effects.

Anyway, take comfort in the fact that very few riders are good enough to roost corners like the pros.
