Five yrs later mine is pretty poor, only time I notice though is on long rides(doesnt happen that often now) and when taking a shower(cleaning left with the tight arm is impossible).

Otherwise its just another thing to moan about as I get older.

Not sure exactly what you have had done, i had dislocated shoulder and snapped the head of humerous off so had two metal pins stuck in there, i think the main thing once you get to about 4-5 weeks post op is to get a good private physio on board, NHS is ace, but they don't get much time to spend with you.

Also make sure that as soon as you can, you get the shoulder moving, even if it is leaning forwards and just doing small movements round and round with sling taking the weight of your arm, last thing you want is frozen shoulder and the quicker you get it moving, the better the recovery will be.

Do you know exactly what operation you had?  I had a Latarjet the other year and was out of contact sports for around 9 months.  That was ligaments and a bone graft.

also what sort of riding do you do? i could have probably ridden xc after 5 or 6 months but for donwhill and dj i wanted to wait until i was ok to play rugby as at that point it was actually stable.  Id get in your head its a long road to recovery and then push hard with your rehab, i think i was driving after 6 weeks and back to work which is a big positive.

On a similar topic I damaged my rotator cuff or acromion ~7 years ago and have just kind of ignored it after initially mentioning it to the Dr, it's only really a problem if I try and do weights at the gym (can't do a shoulder press with my right arm) or try and do front crawl at anything more than a leisurely pace.

If I badgered the NHS to sort it out what would be the recovery time? If it's going to be months/years I'll carry on ignoring it, if it's weeks/months I might look into it so it's done over next winter.

"It depends" is the real answer. What have you had done? After I did my shoulder it took months until I could drive (left shoulder + manual gearbox) and months after that I could be in agony if I forgot to brace myself and walked off a kerb
