How long before I start making a proper fuss?

There's a bike (etc) shop near me which will resell your old gear, and take a cut. Excellent I thought, shift some stuff and the shop gets a cut, which I'm completely happy with.

I left an old Singular Swift with them, with a reasonable price, for which it sold about a week later. They've got a pair of climbing ice axes too, which I don't believe have sold yet.

This was almost 2 months ago and the funds haven't made their way into my account, despite polite requests. I've already had the 'We do the banking on a Friday so I'll do it then' as well as 'I was out of the country and broke my phone's excuses.

How much longer should I wait before I start to make a public fuss on social media (they have a presence) or before I threaten small claims etc?

I'm half tempted to head over in person to suggest I'll take payment in stock (I could do with a set of tubeless inserts and a couple of gravel tyres..)

I admire your equanimity, after 2 months I'd probably be stalking them. I think a trip to the shop and watch as they do the transfer in front of you, or give you cash out of the till is called for.

Sounds like they are struggling, so if you can reach a deal for some of their stock then do so quickly - before they go belly up.

Be polite though, they're armed with ice axes.

I’d head over and have a chat, much more likely to get sense from them in person.

Never attribute malice when it could be incompetence, many small businesses are run by skittish, disorganised people and so it could genuinely be a mistake. And if it’s not, it’s more likely you’ll get a resolution when you’re in front of them than on the phone.

2 months. Totally unacceptable.  I'd be making more than a fuss.

I know a bike (etc) shop owner who sells stuff for customers and has been out of the country and who broke their phone. Maybe it's not as rare as you'd think.

The one I know is in the disorganised rather than the dishonest camp. I'm sure a wee reminder would be appreciated.

I'd have been on them after the third banking Friday at the latest.

I suspect we have the same person in mind - A reminder is needed on occasion, as my son has found out..

I'm convinced it's all a ruse to make you go back into the shop and be distracted by new, shiny toys :-D

I think you've been more than reasonable. Whether or not it's just genuine haven't-got-round-to-it stuff, you still don't have your money. Still, as above, no need to go nuclear - I think I'd proceed basically as @lunge suggests.
