Considering picking up a secondhand Orange Five and wondering how big and noticeable the difference would be between a 2015/2016 Orange Five versus a slightly newer 2017 of the same.

I've had a look at the differences on the geo charts and I'm wondering how much difference it'll make in real life as a 2015/2016 seem to be coming in a fair bit cheaper.

I had a 2004 orange 5. It was cool. Enjoy whatever you have, people adapt quickly to a few mm

The 2017 was a bit lighter and slightly different geo if I remember. Just be careful. The 2017 onwards Oranges are having a host of issues with cracking and Orange warranthnisnon the original owners. As such if I was buying used I would binthe older model. The 2015/16 was, in my experience (I owned a 2016 then upgraded to the newer 2017) a much better put together bike. My 2017 came crooked from the factory, seat post not square which was fixed by Orange. I sold it and the rear swing arm cracked at the drop out. Which is really common has happened to my mates bike also and a host of others if you ever catch the posts on the owners Facebook page...before the admin delete them that is.

As above the the Mk2 five and alpines were lightened and were prone to failings around the seat tube, pivot mounts and cracks on the rear triangle. Their warranty is first owner only, But they seemed to have addressed the problems with the newer 2018 models, but again still a few have cropped up, one being the over sized headtube.

Kelvin out of the 6 of us , two have had frames replaced (first owner warranty ) and one didnt , I guess 3 from 6 frames isnt bad (insert sign here)

They seem pretty conservative with geometry progression so I'd imagine there isn't a huge amount of change.

2017 edition is made from a GDPR compliant filing cabinet.

There's barely any difference between the 2016 and 2017 Orange Fives.

The reach is a tiny bit longer, and the head angle half a degree slacker I think.

Me and my mate had a 2016 and a 2017 with the same spec, both in large. When riding them, we couldn't tell the difference.

That reassuring so other than maybe a little less wear and tear you wouldn't spend much more on a 17 over a 16
