So the Aviva Plus renewal came through and up 22%. Last year it was up 28%.
I guess all prices have gone up so I will go on a couple of comparison sites and have a look.
Any heads up for e bike cover and no outbuilding limits please.
Cheers
M&S is the answer.
M&S might be the answer but it's a bloody expensive one. More than doubled over the last two years so I'll need to be shopping around over the next few days.
Aviva are the underwriters for M & S. Policies are so similar I guess it is just branding.
Used to be with M&S years ago, think they bought in a limit for outbuildings which was no good for me.
Not sure about ebikes but I'm with esure. Need to renew next month so following this with interest.
My renewal quote was 3x the price from last year - 1200 vs 400. That was Sainsbury’s Bank insurance.
Went with Policy Expert after comparison site etc at just a bit less than 500. I’m in a flood zone so can be tricky but that jump was just daft.
My M and S renewal came in yesterday. Over 20% increase on last year. I am thinking of a separate home and bike insurance policy now. Up until now I’ve always shopped round for a policy with decent bike cover.
Aviva again.
Despite their price increase I still couldn't find another that would insure with all the bikes for less. Must plan ahead to look into splitting off the bikes. Is there a fleet option rather than individual bikes? 🤣 Having said that, it's an ageing collection that an insurer would probably consider worthless.
Also due and like jwray ive went with Policy Expert again even though its went from 460 to 550. I've tried splitting bike and house but that was even more expensive so will stick with them another year. Tried the usual comparison sites and a few stand alones but nothing better.
Natwest here, they offered renewal at 50% extra. I phoned, they offered the same as last year.
Same with car, some people just roll over and pay it.
Aviva again.

I've not found anything cheaper than having the bikes specified on a household policy.
If your insurer has the bikes on New for Old, then make sure the values are up to date, or you'll get penalised if you claim. But also make sure that the insurers aren't automatically increasing the values by 20% a year, I found some of my bikes were over valued at last years renewal.
My Admiral renewal just came through and it's a decrease on last year's premium
That's with 4 bikes covered, max cover on everything, accidental damage, legal cover etc.
£370 last year for buildings and contents, down to £320 this year
Out of curiosity I tried for a quote through my bank (RBS) and they declined to offer me a quote, probably due to the bikes
I've hopped back and forth from Aviva to M&S the last couple of years, managed to get a "new customer" discount even though it's pretty much the same product. There might be better options but I like how they handle the bikes- used to be with Churchill and while they're a good company too (*) it was much more fiddly with individual bike ids etc- had to tell them every time I changed a frame, and pay a fee, got quite annoying.
(* I absolutely love Churchill for their payouts. We had a string of break-ins and not only were they fast each time, they also paid out for some stuff that wasn't really covered, and negotiated us upwards on the price. For the biggest one I put in a totally fair £2000 or thereabouts estimate and braced myself, and they said "yeah OK how about £2500 though?" Also had a small fire that was really well handled. Obviously the measure of an insurance company isn't the price, it's how it goes if you have to claim"
I posted a link on a seperate thread the other day for Cycleplan because they have a big discount at the moment and that link added another 5% on top.
Turns out our problem is just too many decent bikes. We don't often buy brand new, whole bikes but if we had to replace all 5 that would add up to £23,000 at full retail (we have paid nothing like this).
Admiral were about a third for the house insurance part versus Aviva but despite this wouldn't budge on price. Sadly Admiral only go up to £12,000 for bikes.
LV wouldn't cover our postcode.
I ended up saving £180 by choosing Admiral for the house and Cycleplan for the bikes. Hopefully Aviva will do us a deal next year again because the Cycleplan had 60% off.
Thanks for input everyone, but no one has said if these other companies have a limit on outbuildings cover?
Cheers.
We're with Halifax, the bikes all have to be named and priced on the policy, I can't recall what the T&C's are around garage Vs outbuildings or if there's an upper limit.

Same here, I really need to phone them up and ask what the deal is because some of them I'd argue and want the RRP for them (or a replacement) as they're still either current models or things just haven't changed much since i bought them, others I fully accept that 'new for old' on a 20yr old road bike with Dura Ace is taking the piss, there's no way I could ask for ~£5k for it with a straight face! At the same time to replace it (and all the components on it) would cost far more than a quick look on ebay might suggest. At the moment it's just insured for what I recon I could rebuild it for buying decent condition parts, my worry is they might wriggle out of it by either saying "well it's only worth £X on ebay" or "it's a £5k bike and was therefore more of a theft risk and uninsured".
Has anyone got experience claiming when your bike is a mish-mash of parts?
I have one bike that is pretty much the same as when bought complete - easy to prove the value as I have the original receipt.
Other bike is a mix of parts, frame was bought as frame only, some parts off an old complete build, some parts bought new, some second hand. I could guess the value, but if I ever claimed would I have a difficulty proving this value and could it cause problems?
Long time ago now, but claimed for a stolen frame build cove hustler. Dealt with Wheelies on behalf of Admiral I think - was no issue, had photos of bike and some receipts. Went through no bother.
Our Aviva has jumped from £485 to £635 - we have just had to replace the boiler, & claimed on the house insurance for the boiler leak that led to it's replacement & we are having to get a quote to them to replace the carpet.

Our M&S cover still didn't have an outbuildings limit last year; I always check the smallprint. But it is getting fearfully expensive...
20% increase last year, and this years renewal has come in at 24% increase. I shopped aroung last year but couldn't find anything cheaper which didn't have an outbuildings limit. I'll try again this year, but expect I'll just have to pay M&S again.
Finally plucked up the courage to look at my Esure renewal - up 11%, though now Jnr has moved out there's a couple of bikes to take off the specified items list. Not seeing anything close to that so will be staying with them again.
NFU for us, albeit due to the age of our house most high street names won’t quote us.
Take a look at Pedal Cover. They're specialist bicycle and home insurance.
Was with Pedal Cover, they introduced limit on outbuildings.
