Is it easy enough to get them out? Or is there a 'tool'? I am about to try and sort my mates front and rear hub and I don't think they have been out in a while....if ever!
So before I start I wondered if you had any tips??
A selection of sockets and a vice to push them out is easiest. It can be a hard job first time though. Plenty of grease as they go back together and I'd be tempted to pop the seals and pack the new bearings with some extra grease as well
Ahhh....sockets and a vice! Yep, thought as much! And yeah, no worries, I've seen plenty of people saying about repacking the grease so that's a defo.
Cheers buddy.
The front and rear hub bearings come out by tapping the axle, but sockets work for the freewheel bearings and pushing them back in
Thanks PeterPoddy.
heat the hub - hot water is enough ( tie a cloth round it and pour a kettle full of boiling water over it) - it helps. Use a rubber mallet or protectt eh ends of the axle with a bit of wood
Cheers TJ - helpful hint! (I have rubber mallet so no issues there!).
If you're tapping the new bearings in, put the old bearings on top of them to save damaging them.
Also pay attention to how the through axle sits, make sure you don't put the bearings in and leave it out.
My bulb rear hub also has c clips that hold some of the bearings in place on the rear.
Not sure about the XC rear hub, but I would look out for anything that has to be removed before you try to take the old bearings out.
Good luck ๐
