I am a mechanical numpty so could do with some help please.

My faithful 8 year old XC front hub has developed some alarming play. Can anyone point me at a guide, preferably with pics on how to service it ?

Cheers all.

Dave I wlll do it for you I will get the bearings from Merlin - it will take at most 5 mins assuming we can drift out your bearings easily.
E-mailed you instructions - it is easy and you get to use a hammer!!!

I've serviced my front hub about 5 times using a lump hammer with no insideous problems.

marvel at how strongly the O ring in the cap can grip the axle, and how far a small biro spring can shoot a freewheel pawl! Spanish Inquisistion level.

place a bolt in the end of the axle to protect it when drifting it out, it stops you mushrooming the axle end.

Shall I you tube it Kaesae style?
Seriously hit the axle one side pops out the bearing as axle comes out on other side.put it back in hit the other side and it pops the other side bearing out. drift the bearing out- easy as you just took it out anyway. Insert one bearing with suitable drift - socket for example insert axle from other side inset remaining bearing - like i said 5 mins
