I have a pair of these on my HT - they are beefy brakes - that work surprisingly well. They are over 10 years old ...
I also have a set of Saint 4 pot shimanos as spares ...

Am I better swapping over to the Shimano set - or stick with the Hopes ?

( After the nuclear war, only cockroaches and Hope brakes will survive)

I'd keep the V2's on.
Or put the Saint's on for a bit then put the V2's back on when the Saint's started leaking or I got bored of lever bite point roulette.

lever bite point roulette.

lol true.. Still i keep trucking with my Shimano's, though i would like a pair of spangly hopes.. V2's were/ar good brakes, i've had everything from C2's, mono's, M4's, 6ti, but never have had a newer set of V's or E's.. I'm currently running a frankenstien set of Shimano very old Saint calipers with XT levers - i can never get the buggers to work for more than afew rides at a time - hopes were never any problem, or if they were you could fix them..

I've just "upgraded" from my 2/3 year old XTs to a set of similar vintage E4s and the difference is night and day. I did stray away from Hope brakes for a bit (their hubs are the first thing to go on any of my builds) but I don't know why - they're brilliant vs the modern Shimanos I've used and are a piece of piss to bleed, get spares for etc.

I'm just glad that this has been widely acknowledged as a problem. When people used to mention it on here (including myself) they were accused of being ham fisted bodgers who didn't know how to bleed brakes.

When STW and Pinkbike reviews of pretty much every Shimano brake equipped bike mentions it, it can't really be hidden.

5 or 6 years ago when I had some Saints and SLX brakes with the same issue I was basically ridiculed when asking for advice.

There's other relatively recent Shimano threads on here where people are adamant they just haven't been set up properly.

Anyway, 3 and a half year old E4's here. Never had a problem. I wish they had a bit more peak power but I only notice it on proper DH days which are few and far between.
