[Closed] hope pro 2 trials hub freehub play

Can anyone help me with this? I have a pro2 trials hub and the freehub has about 1-2mm lateral play along the axle - i've changed the bearings (this was happening before i changed them too) and made sure all spacers are in place (including the 1mm one between the freehub and the hub body) and all bearings are properly seated along with the end caps and whatever i do, or however tight i do the bolts up there's still 1-2mm play, like the freehub is sliding along the axle slightly.

Has anyone had this before and have any idea what's going on?

Are the end caps slightly different in width? maybe they are on the wrong sides.

nope, the non-drive side one has a flange so can't get the the wrong way round - good idea though!

The only thing that would stop that lateral play would be the shim washer between the freehub bearing and the centre hub bearing. I thought it was wider than 1mm on mine. Can you try a slightly wider washer as a shim to try and see if that cures it? Or check the freehub bearings are not sunken into the freehub. The bearings inside the freehub should be flush to the body and by the axle end should also be flush. if the tube shim inside the hub body is worn, may cause the bearings to move inward IYKWIM

i think tracking down a wider washer is my next step. I only said it's 1mm as that's what's shown on the hope exploded diagram. Am also going to ring hope later - it's a bit of an old hub though so well out of warranty but they might have an idea of what's wrong!
