Looking to replace my Hope Tech X2 brakes with XT 785, but want to keep the Hope floating rotors (183mm front, 160mm rear). I am going to use the hope mounts (as the shimano don't come with mounts or rotors). Anyone know it this will work, i.e. shimano caliper won't foul on the rivets?

Have used XT Brakes on Hope 183 Rotors using Avid 185 adapters, no hassle at all. Oddly, when I fitted a Hope 183 adapter, there was a little bit of rub, so you might need a washer or two under the caliper.

Not that you are asking, or bothered, but, I have X2's and my brother recently bought some XT's. Since fitting them he has had nothing but trouble, almost every ride they stop working for one reason or another.

My X2's on the other hand, not had one single issue.

I've used Hope floating rotors with Shimano calipers for a number of years - but I'm pretty sure (though please check!) that Shimano is a 180mm rotor, not 183.

So saying, I recently swapped my Hope floating rotors for Shimano XT ones and I'm much happier with them. I have to say I wouldn't go back, and if its an aesthetic thing, the latest XT / XTR rotors look just as purdy as the Hopes, if not nicer. Just my opinion of course! ๐Ÿ™‚

Shimano normally are 180mm, so you'll prob need to get a new adaptor.

Floating rotors? They look nice and ting when cooling down after heavy braking.

I very much doubt you'll need a new adaptor for a 3mm difference diameter rotor. Stating the obvious, the radius is only 1.5mm bigger. Only way is to try it, though.

Floating rotors - can use a lighter spider eg Aluminium to mount the braking surface (normally Steel). The connecting washers have play to allow for differential heat expansion - hence the floating bit. They are also less likely to distort although I can't remember exactly why...
