So should I get a hope bb or a deore BB for my next build?

VFM and functionality are the drivers plus the BB surviving a winter bog fest

I’d never run a deore BB (again). At least go XT for the sealing

Hope lasts - question is whether it is really VFM if you can buy 5 shimano BBs for the same price as a Hope

I tend to get about 2500km out of a push for XT one and they're cheap as chips, so is it really worth the massive extra cost?

Do yourself a favour and try a token tk878ex from wiggle
They are as close to a hope bb as you'll get (even use the same bearing code of 6805r)
18 quid

I've got 3 over various bikes that have all been fine. No top hats to wear out as the 24mm axle sits directly onto the bearings

Hope steel BBs here on mine and wifes bikes. 7 years each of all weather riding. Changed bearings in mine once. I used to get through XT BB in 4-6 months, superstar/deores in 12 weeks.

VFM if only for the lack of ever needing to worry about it.

Uberbike's are a decent option.

Check preload is not high as that’ll extend life

😉

My hope bb experience is the opposite. 6 months of riding and bearings needed replacing. Which was £40! An xt bb is no more than £20 so I just can’t see how the hope bbs are worth it.
It’s a shame as I don’t like the throwaway nature of buying cheap but cost is a big factor

Never had that much trouble with Deore BBs. Buy a few at a time from the Germans at nine quid each, make sure I fit it with the right amount of preload, and generally get at least a couple of thousand miles out of each one. Didn't notice a massive improvement with XT when I used it, and there's no way I'm shelling out for Hope.

I agree. Keep the preload down and xt will last forever!

New M8000 XT are good, getting decent lifespan from them. Far better than the older style Shimanos which were all equally poor ime, Deore or XT they were effectively the same inside.

Got Hope ceramic BB on my road bike - after nine years and around 25,000km I replaced one of the bearings last week, I used a stainless steel bearing 'cause that's what I had.

Got Hope stainless steel on my Solaris. That's five years old and has done around 14,000km so far, all weathers, all seasons.

Deore on my single speed (road) lasted about 4000km.

SRAM GXP on my commuter lasted 1000km.

I've not popped the seals and added grease to any of these bearings.
