[#10752800]

The other half needs a new rear tyre and she likes the current Vigilante, which is a tough version. We only got the tough as it's all BPW had at the time.

I 'think' it's probably over kill as she isn't hard on stuff and from memory the tough was a pretty burly tyre, not far off my Maxxis DD.

So what are lights like, will they take a bit of abuse?

The most recent Light casing tyres are reinforced and tougher than the older ones.

@kelvin thanks, that's handy to know.

@tdog I'm hoping for something similar to Exo.

I’m pretty sure that you’ll be fine with the lights. Ran them on my hardtail for a long time without any problems.

I recently got a Trail Boss Light/Fast Rolling

Seems fine. Took it round some pretty rocky stuff and no rips/punctures etc

Unless you’re riding very hard, with WTB casings it’s usually a good shout to run tough out back and light up front. Very light or tidy riders in places without sidewall slashing scenery can probably run light at the rear too.

The sidewalls on the tough are much stronger though, the tyre sits up unaided like a wirebead and usually tubelesses like a dream. Floppier light versions can be a bit more work to seat. Much more low pressure tolerant without rim dings IME.

Tough Fast is a full-on dual casing tyre, which is really only necessary on the back. But it's taught me to always go dual casing out back, especially on a hardtail. Bombproof. Have a Light Vigi on the front and it's plenty tough enough. WTB are amongst the best value, well thought out tyres available IMO.
