I'm putting a Hope BB (+ GXP spacer) on my T130 (73mm shell) which has SRAM cranks (XX1 if it makes any difference), but I also have a BB mounted oneup chain guide, that takes the place of the 2.5mm drive side spacer.
If I fit it as above, there is some play when the left crank is tightened up. If I fit the star shaped washer/bearing shield from the SRAM bb back in, and *really* crank up the bolt, the play is 99% gone, but there is an odd lookingย disc in between the crank and BB.
Have I done it right? Should I put one of the 2.5mm spacers on the NDS instead of the star washer?
I might have an idea actually... SRAM BB is 73mm (they don't use spacers) = 75.5mm with a chain guide. Hope BB is 71.5mm (73 with the spacer) = 73 with the chain guide. Hence 2.5 difference so I need to add a spacer in. That doesn't explain why there isn't any play in the SRAM BB at 73mm without a chain guide though...
There shouldn't be any play with any of them, as the NDS crank arm torques up against the crank axle, sandwiching the NDS bearing and holding everything laterally solid.
You mean a gap on the DS?
When I put it together as I expected, the NDS crank arm was away from the bearing, hence the play. Adding the star washer/bearing shield from the SRAM BB took up this space a bit.
Did you use both gxp spacers?
Remember to sandwich the hope bearing over between the outer spacer and bearing
Yep, both bearing spacers fitted and fully compressed against the bearing.
unfortunately, if you have 73mm shell you cannot run anything behind the bottom bracket cup, or the non-drive side end of the crank wont engage properly.
You should have ISCG05 tabs I think? ย Following from Parkstar, you probably need to rethink the chain guide and either lose it or swap for one that fits the tab mounts...
No ISCG tabs on the T130 unfortunately.
To update: I tested the NDS with the BB out of the frame, and with some cranking on the allen key I managed to get it tight enough to clamp the bearing properly without any washer/spacers required.
Refitted to the bike it also fits fine with the BB mounted chain device, the only issue now is that the chain line looks a bit further out than it did with the SRAM BB. I might try putting a spacer on the NDS shell to bring it over a bit (unless it causes rubbing on the drive side), or a 6mm offset chainring instead of the 3mm boost one.
