i'm sure this has been asked before but does anyone know if its possible to use hope 5mm hose on a 6mm setup ie if is get some 5mm olives will it work? the olive is there just as a clamp and not a seal so i'd like to think it would work. anybody know if this will work or do i need a new front and back connection to the hose? ta
Unfortunately not, for the olive to clamp,it needs something to compress it, and 6mm fittings won't do this.Hope used to do kits for the conversion inc. hose (not sure if still available now),and complete connector assemblies as well as individual parts.If you're converting then it's cheaper to buy as complete an assembly as possible.
If you get all new fittings, i.e. unthread everything from the brake and caliper (depending on the age the first fitting in the lever can be reused) , then start fresh with 5mm fittings you will be fine, we have done it several times. Any hope dealer can get individual fittings and hose separately to sort you out (We keep them in stock but others may have to order in)

thanks, I wasn' sure if the OD on the 5mm was the same as the 6mm olive although i suspect that the ID of the hose is smaller so the barb on the fittings wont fit. no worries i'll just get an new lever and caliper connector and bring it up to spec. just cant work out why hope no longer supply the 6mm stuff cant be too expensive to keep?!.
