Looking to add a Hope 40t expander onto my current PG1070 cassette, removing the 17t cog. But I currently run with a SRAM X0 short cage mech.
Is the 40t expander going to work with the current mech?

Yes. But it may well explode if your chain growth is too long on a full sus. Hardtail.... Give it a go.

I run a 40t of X pander with an X9 short cage and it's been fine.
I did check the chain length with the shock deflated though to make sure it didn't rip the mech off at full travel.
