Hi, I’m away to home house so need to shop around for insurance. Anyone got any recommendations for someone that will include cover for 9 bikes without breaking the bank?

cheers!

I'm currently having a lot of trouble with this. Nothing super high value, no e bikes, bit trying to find one which will cover my bikes in a locked garden building without them having to be locked to a solid object with a good standard lock is nigh on impossible.

Try M&S. They have been good for this previously, but in the last two years they've nearly doubled out renewal despite no material changes, and enough is enough.

We ended up using a traditional broker (A-Plan, now Howden) - They found us an AXA policy that covered all our bikes (8 ish) without them needing to be locked to a solid object (they are in a secure outbuilding). It included theft and damage cover away from the house as well. All this was on our house and contents insurance.

Last year they wouldn't renew it so the brokers found us a separate policy. I'm not sure who it's with but I'll try and find out and post the details. I do know it costs us more than a single policy (when added to house insurance) but it has the same benefits - ie. bike also insured away from the house.

We use M & S bank. They just ask for the value of the most expensive bike you have. They don't specify what kind of locks you need either. Simple.

Im useing lemonade but they have a limit of a max value of 10k for all bikes. Very easy to setup and cheap with away from home add on.

Covered under our house insurance with Aviva. Bumps up the cost, but not enough to get a separate policy.

Aviva cover multiple bikes based on value of most expensive but have an upper limit of £7500k for the most expensive and a total limit for cotents stored in the shed also £7500k. They don't specify a total if stored in the house.

They were also considerably cheaper than M&S. Just renewed last week. Those figures were on their signature policy with unlimited contents value.

LAKA, been with them a couple of years. Discounts for multiple bikes.  No limit on bikes as far as i can tell.  Theft and damage cover.  Not the cheapest but better than including it in with my house insurance.  Drop me a DM if interested as they do a referral thing with £25 credit to both the referer and referee.

I'm with Aviva too, covered for all of my bikes in an integral garage. very simple and not ludicrously expensive when I see what other folk are paying for house/contents insurance.

Esure for me as well. Have also made a couple of decent sized claims with them on buildings insurance and they have been pretty good.

I went with Pedal Cover.

Not had to test it out thankfully but on paper seems good.

I'm fairly sure I asked them if that total limit applied to bikes and was told it didn't if you have pedal cover, but it's worth checking with them if it could affect you.

FWIW, I do lock my bikes in the garage.

Anyone relying on Aviva for multiple bikes, avoid having any discussions with them.about total number of bikes and cost.

Otherwise they may well decline cover, once they realise the enormity of their exposure

Fair comment - though I have queried it each renewal. However we do minimise the bikes in the shed! Even assessing contents without bikes - at the last renewal I did a quick schedule of other contents and realised that if you have any amount of other outdoor gear it comes to a substantial amount of replacement cost and I have very little evidence to back up a claim. And that's before taking into account Mrs B's collection of dresses! Even if individually there are none of great value.

The Aviva wording is

Cover for each of your cycles

Pedal cycles are automatically covered under contents cover while they're kept at home (subject to the policy limits and exclusions). If you want to cover your bikes away from home, including on holiday while abroad you will need this additional cover.

It doesn’t matter how many bikes you’d like to insure, just enter the value of your most expensive cycle.

Please refer to the policy booklet for full details of the cover and exclusions.

I fell out with Pedalcover years ago as I declined to take their verbal assurance that they would honour a claim even tho they couldn't issue a renewal as the entire insurance system was down for everyone (it wasn't) - but maybe they have improved since.

They were OK when I had to claim.

Worth getting a quote off them OP, their CS is pretty good and it's easy to amend named bikes as you chop and change

Always lots of small print to read through. For me aviva had a max claim of £5k for a bike. I have a 6k emtb which exceeds the £5k and thus isn't covered at all under the policy.

Friend says he's just had an email from M&S stating they are no longer doing house insurance :/

Mines with MBNA at the moment.

I think the limit is £10k total and they have to be named + valued.

I don't think it says if the value is new price or current value so I put new prices in for the nice/main bikes and reasonable 2nd hand guesses on the rest as that's likely what I'd do if I had to claim.

I'm with Aviva. Pedal Cover were quite happy to admit that they were uncompetitive for more than a couple of bikes - I've got 7 to insure and they came out over four times the price of Aviva.
