Myself and the missus are looking to book a holiday for next summer. Ideally a nice, child safe and dog friendly cottage near some decent trails...
We have 2 young children, so I can't be out all day riding... need something I can duck out the back door early in the morning, or in the evening once the kids are in bed.
Can anyone recommend anywhere? Would love a bit of luxury, and a hot tub would be an added bonus.
Anywhere around Ambleside/Keswick. Try sallys cottages.
lakes?

of try one of the others along the grey bar. Literally at the foot of whinlatter forest.
I'd choose Innerleithen for this, it's a mecca
This place looks good, I've only ever rode past it mind ๐

I'd say Elterwater. We have had about 18 family holidays there
Great for trail and walks, including kids walks and bike rides along the much improved valley paths
If you need a rainy day option then pay to use the leisure club at the Time share
The cottage we use is great but very expensive. Well unless you compare to Centre Parks
But there are other options

or look at Dalbeattie which gives you access to the beach as well
http://www.dunskiag.co.uk/index.htm very nice and also have the long barn which is a bit cheaper but still fantastic including hot tub and sauna. Stayed in both happily recommend.
Check out Mudtrek near Carmarthen - dog friendly, family friendly, on the door of Brechfa Forest and Jay's a top guide too if you fancy being shown some other stuff... http://www.mudtrek.com/
Tell them I sent you...
We used to stay at Barclosh Farm near Dalbeattie - not sure if it is still going as he did offer us one of the cottages for sale.
Loads of kid friendly stuff around as well, beaches, farm parks etc.
My other half has a 2 bedroom chalet near Bideford in Devon, its on a holiday park, its got a swimming pool and play areas for the kids. Its a 20 minute drive to Torrington where where you can pick up the Tarka trail which is child friendly cycle route.
If you are on FB its
Or search for The Holt - Bolt Hole Devon
If you go to the FB page there are some phots that I took when I did a bit of the Tarka trail.
THere is loads of family stuff to do, Bude is 20 mins drive
I'm staying here next week. At the foot of Glentress trail centre...
As above Mudtrek is great but I wouldn't say it is a family place.
As a place for groups into their riding it's great and I had an excellent time out with Jay. Nikki's food is top notch too.
The accommodation is small but very well presented.
Graythwaite cottages are nice, pool, lake close by, Grizdale not far, trails out the door, local boozer was a bit of a stretch though.
We've just had a brilliant week in one of two lodges at Dalbeattie forest lodges , sleeps 5 and dog friendly. 300m from the start of Dalbeattie trail ,20 minutes drive from Mabie , Kirroughtree and Ae about 50 minutes .Our dogs had a great time in the woods with loads of way marked walking trails .there's plenty of beaches to explore plus the odd castle .
We use Gorsebank at Dalbeattie, they have 2 great bothies which sleep 6/10 people so plenty of space, nicely finished and 200 metres from the trails in the forest.

Quite spendy but heartily recommend this place in the Lakes. Amazing view to wake up to and Grizedale and Claife Heights on your doorstep
Anybody know of good examples like above that are available for a long weekends? Fri-Mon??
You don't say where you are it how far you are prepared to travel so I'll suggest Aviemore
Another vote for Aviemore - great riding, lots for kids to do and lots of good quality accommodation to be found.
Scotland might be a bit of a trek. Wales/Lakes/Peak district all potentials. Will be travelling from Norfolk.
http://www.steilstonschoolhouse.co.uk/ just over the border near Dumfries plenty of riding nearby.
Staveley is a nice spot to stay, bit quieter than Ambleside etc. but with good riding and lots of tasty eating options and a good pub too.
Thanks mtbguiding for your recommendation, and to curvature for your kind words. Just like to say that we are very much family friendly (although curvature you've no doubt seen us in full boys only mode!). Whilst many of our groups are adult we've had some fantastic families stay and enjoy what we offer here at www.mudtrek.com. Some of our regulars guests are a family with kids of 7 - 15. Our guide is exclusive to your group and guided rides are tailor made to each individual group. Please don't take our word for it - check out our 60 x 5 star TripAdvisor reviews, some of which are from guests with kids and dogs (we love 'em both). http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g1472488-d4164313-or66-MudTrek_Mountain_Bike_Breaks-Brechfa_Carmarthenshire_Wales.html#REVIEWS ๐
