Thinking about this combination using my spare tyres for the hardtail I’m building up?

Will I die?

No but you have to commit and lean the bike if you want the front to bite. I’d put them the other way around.

+1 I didn’t like the High Roller on the front so put it on the rear to use it up. I wouldn’t buy another

Problem is that the High Roller is Exo, the DHR is Exo plus.

That's exactly what I have now and it's fine. High Rollers are mint.

HR2 on the front isnt that nice.. with something like an ardent up back its a bit more balanced.. but a dhr on the back is the worng way around imho....

Orbea Occams used to come with HR front, Rekon rear. Possibly worst combination I can think of for UK winter. First LLS and 29er bike I rode, didn't die.

DHR is good on the front.

Hate DHF on the front, HR is said to be and looks worse. On that basis I think the HR on the front will cost you more in torn clothing and bike damage, than buying another tyre.

I have 2.5 3c HRs up front on two of my bikes and they work great for me all seasons. But I'm no riding god so maybe you'll find them lethal.

I prefer the DHR2 3c up front on the other bike.

To add to my post, I went through a phase of running an HR2 2.4 up front. It was great when I was properly on it and scary AF when I wasn’t. The DHR2 is basically a friendlier version of it.

Regarding Exo vs Exo+, Exo is 60tpi, Exo+ was 120tpi + silkskin and is now 60tpo + something. 120tpi Exo+ is ironically flimsier than Exo!

To answer the OP's question in practical terms...you've already got the tyres, just run them until they're dead. Don't listen to the drama queens on here.

Most of the drama queens here are saying put the HR2 on the back and the DHR2 on the front - not buy different tyres!

you just have to lean in and commit takes a bit of getting used to , but once you do its great especially with a decent compound

they clear better than minions in the mud too

I would put the DHR2 on the front. If you're going to put the HR2 on the front, you could reverse the orientation to give it more bite.

High Roller II front, DHR rear

That's the combination I run on my hardtail. You'll be fine.

Don't like a HR on the rear - I find it kicks.

Haven't found EXO and EXO+ to be massively different in practice tbh, I wouldn't let that bother me. May depend on your local riding conditions etc of course
