[Closed] Help with problem fitting headset on New on One TI Evo 456 Frame

Just went to shed to fit headset on my new on One Ti 456 Evo and AAARGH. The top headset cup is a strange size!

The headset is "tapered" as they say. Bottom cup is 1.5 inch fine. But the top cup internal diameter is about 44mm. Is this another new bike standard I didn't know about or is it a mistake?? On one didn't mention it on their site so seeing that it was tapered I went for a normal 1.125inch top cup.

The taper on my other bike is 1.5 to 1.125. I though all "tapered" headsets were like that?

Help appreciated!

According to this page, it's a 1.125" top cup

Giant overdrive headtubes are on the top shelf in the factory.. one must've bounced out into the On-one tub down below! ;OD

Thought the top cup on those is a zero stack one

There is a cup but it sits inside the 44 mm head tube

Only thing I can add is that I couldn't get the headset in my 456Ti with the usual threaded rod, nuts etc - nor with the hammer. In the end I had to get my LBS to do it with the proper tools.

deffo not 1.125 internal top cup. The Internal diameter is about 44mm. As Orangeboy says they mention Smoothie 44zs. I Guess that means 44mm Integral(hope make a 43.95 integral).

Luckily I have a good strong headset press. I have done lots over the years...unfortunately not the correct headset though ๐Ÿ™

44mm = Integral = Internal = Zero Stack. They're all the same (but not to be confused with Integrated). It's a common standard, you need a Hope '2' top cup.

If the headset cup is very tight to press in then i suggest you get it reamed to the correct dia within the specified tolerance and faced beforehand as you may stretch the headtube if you force the headset cup in, this may lead to splitting of the headtube at some point in the future.

yeah it's a zero stack semi integrated (but for 1.125" which is where the confusion comes in) headset.

You can also fit an external cup 44mm upper headset I believe which lets you fit angleset type headsets and I think you may also be able to fit a 1.5" steerer in there with the right external cup headset (eg the nukeproof one)

Cheers guys. Hope 2 now being ordered. Its getting so complicated now! So many different combos. Must be a nightmare for manufacturers although I guess the move to different standards is from the industry itself.

Got correct Hope semi integrated 43.95mm Hope No2 as davewaish mentioned above. It went in smoothly helped with a bit of grease. I must say the headtube was nicely reamed by the manufacturer and the general frame finish is very good. Hopefully ride it this weekend ๐Ÿ™‚
