Anyone with local knowledge?

I hear Grisedale Pike is a (cheeky) option.

Cheers.

Its possible to ride down towards lorton from the visitors centre, turn right into the forest (oposite the two cottages) and keep right heading towards whinnlater/barf.Its a murderous climb but adds a usefull loop,I have done 30 miles in whinllater without using the same trail twice, the 125,000 scale maps have the best detail for stringing a route together.

Grisdale pike is a footpath and a very cheeky route imho. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Grisedale Pike is indeed a footpath but there were quite a few bikes visible going down there last night! Tres cheeky

There's various levels of cheeky ๐Ÿ™‚

And I don't mind it, but if it's like riding through a shopping centre on a saturday afternoon we'll give it a miss.

Theorically, what would be the best route over Grisedale?

We did the Borrowdale Bash (route from Bogtrotters website) and Whinlatter in the same day, both are superb if you like it quite techy.

It's a big day out.

If you ride down the road towards Lorton (away from Keswick) and take the first L, following the Hopebeck gated road (signed for C2C), there's a good permissive BW runs along the fell wall, from just uphill of the second gate across the road, to the cattle grid at Lanthwaite Green (on the road to Buttermere). Turn R onto road, then L into the woods - Lanthwaite woods. There's a nice pub a few hundred metres from the bridge at the end of the descent through the woods - the Kirkstile Inn. Only problem now is that you're about 6 miles downhill of where you parked!
Mail me if you'd like other ideas - this makes little sense to me reading it now!
