Hello

I just bought a refresh kit from tf tuned for my forks. However there seems to be conflicting info on the web for what to use each of the 'oils' for!

There is a wee sachet of float fluid. The fox Service page says to tip it in the top of the left fork leg, but other sites say to use it to soak the foam rings.....so which is it and why?

There is then 2 bottles, one of 10 wt suspension fluid, and one of lower lube mix. Presumably the suspension fluid is for topping up the forks? That being the case then what is the lower lube mix for? Just general lubricating before sliding them back on.....or something else?

Sounds like fairly basic questions but this is the first time I've done it and everything seems a little confusing!!

Cheers!

I have always put a small amount of fluid syringed into the bottom of the fork lowers whilst the fork is upturned and before the lowers are bolted back. This could be what the lower lube mix is for.
If you store your bike upturned then this fluid trickles down the inside of the lowerslubricating the bushings.

Still much confusion!

I have the fit damped 140mm float RL's, but there doesn't seem to be a fox service manual for these that I can find anyway, so the closest I've found are for the standard RLs.

I've taken the forks appart and Sussed out that i put the lower lube as it says in the lower legs.

The fox oil volume chart suggests I put 5ml of float fluid in the air chamber. However when I took the forks appart there was much more in there, I'd guess 30-40ml or so. So I've put them back together with the recommended 38.6ml damper fluid in the chamber and they work as well as they ever did. However, I've never managed to get the last 10mm or so travel from the forks with air in, and can only just get the full 140mm without.....so I wonder if they have always had too much oil in them? I have had them since new though so this would seem unlikely?

The fox oil volume chart says use 38.6ml fluid in the damper. I assume this is for the FIT assembly, which I don't intend touching just now. As I mentioned above, I have stuck this in the air chamber just now, and the forks seem to work as well as they did before.

Appreciate any help from you folks....the last forks I service were circa 1993 rockshox and paces!!

Cheers

FIT Dampered forks? if so:

30 ml 10 weight in each lower leg for lubrication.

Float air chamber 5 ml float fluid, however if more oil was in there you maybe getting fluid transfer, so you need to replace the foam ring for a 'scraper' ring seal.

35.2 refers to the FIT damper oil.

Any issues feel free to give me a call at the workshop.

cheers for that. the bottom of the left fork was very dry (ie no oil) when i took it appart. So that, the fact the air chamber had a bunch of oil, and the 10mm so reduced travel suggests i'm getting fluid transfer from the bottom of the leg to the air chamber.

so i'll replace the seals on the air chamber rod i think.

cheers!!
