Evening hive mind!
I'm looking at new bikes for the (not-so-little!) girl and they all come with a square taper BB. Can I convert to a Hollow Tech 2 compatible BB? It'll be her first 'non-child' size bike and I've got spares that I could use if/once the BB dies to save some £££s.
Ta muchly
Yep
In principle yes, assuming that it uses the same thread.
A little OT, but does anybody know where the "new topic" button has gone. I can't find it o laptop or phone........
Pretty much every bike uses a BSA bottom bracket thread if they have a threaded BB so are cross compatible. You might come across italian or French BBs which are different but are rare indeed nowadays

Why change them tho? Square taper is very reliable
If it's a decent fully sealed square taper, UNxx, (UN5x are the solid axle, UN7x are the hollow ones, I think they are up to UN74 now?) then it'll outlast anything else on the bike. Cup and cone less so but you can get a UN52 for a tenner when that dies, no need for new cranks.
Or treat her to a Royce if you're feeling flush...
@shakleton, I had to go onto the bike forum for it to appear, nothing on overview.
That's what I thought TJ, but doesn't hurt to check!
I'm sure she will want to bling hers up like daddy does, and I have a coloured BB so just getting ahead of the curve!
