Hi,
Can somebody offer some advice please?
I am attempting to remove my Truvativ FireX crankset, however the crank extractor has stripped the thread in the non-drive side crank when I tightened it up to remove it - pushing the extractor out. I am using the correct extractor tool and adapter, I appreciate this is probably user error as this is my first attempt at what I presumed was a simple task.... Can anybody suggest any ideas at getting the non-drive side crank off so I can remove the crankset please?
Hopefully this makes sense to somebody?
Thanks in advance.
Go and ride it round the park maybe? The motion can loosen the unbolted crank and it will fall off - not used that particular crankset though.
perhaps something along these lines

maybe check the size first! a local garage will have one to fit.
Thanks Garry Lager, I may give that a go it certainly sounds logical enough....mmb, I'm not sure what that thing is mate, not sure I'd know what to do with it to be honest, thank you for the suggestion though.
....mmb, I have just worked out what it is. ๐
if riding does not work thump it with a ball joint splitter and it will work
that thing is called a ball joint splitter, put it between the crank arm and the bb tube and give it a clout!.
Cheers mmb, I worked it out and that's going to be my course of action tomorrow....thanks mate.
remember to use some kind of padding so you don't cause too much damage.
I just cut the offending crank arm off with a mini cutting blade and a dremmel yyyynnnnnnnn!!!
You shouldn't need a crank extractor. It has an aluminium top cap with a 10mm hex key. Leave that in place. Then an aluminium screw with an 8mm Hex key beneath. You should remove it my unscrewing the 8mm hex against the top cap which works as a puller. If you do remove the aluminium screws also remember to remove the steel washer because that will stop you from getting your crank extractor to push against the shaft.
Try it again with the washer removed and you may have enough thread left to pull it off. Failing that, boiling water and hitting.
